2008 Season Prediction

#1 Post by Ghosts »

talking about your own team is easy.

picking how all of the divisions are going to pan out is hard.

since we're all sort of waiting around, i thought we could try our hand at predicting 2008 final standings for each division.

rules:

pick regular final order of finish and final record & Rodriguez Cup match-up and winner (in how many games)

scoring:

6 point for every correct team order of finish picked.
6 points for every team record picked within 5 games.
20 points for for each correct Rodriguez Cup team picked.
25 points for correctly picking the Rodriguez Cup champion.
40 additional points for correctly picking length of Rodriguez Cup series length (if you pick the series winner)

----

maybe we can get the commish to award some CP's for this? if not, I'll offer the winner the 33 year old A ball NON-CATCHER of their choice.

how do the rules sound?

Woo Hoo!
I love little games like these! The only problem is that it's a little early for my predictions. I will wait until April(in game) to make mine. If I win, I will hold you to that 33 y.o. single A player-so don't go and signing him to a long deal!!!

While I'm certainly not clever enough to make accurate predictions, I will mention a few things that stand out to me:
  • In the ultra-competitive Dixie I believe New Orleans will be given a serious run for their money as they try to repeat as division champs. Charleston's pitching staff is a thing of beauty... can their hitting keep up? George Riley is going to have a say in who wins the Dixie this year as he clubs for the Coal Sox. I have a positive feeling that San Antonio's focus on pitching will pay dividends.
  • They may not be ready to compete yet, but I've been very impressed by the rebuilding job in Kentucky. Maybe it's Bill's solid (yet drunken) advice. Regardless, I feel this team is getting things turned around. I also have great confidence in the new ownership team helming the Florida Featherheads.
  • Arlington is better... yes, even without Jesus Luna. Don't expect a 22 game separation between them and New Jersey again this year.
  • Gloucester has some exciting young talent on their team. I look for them to be one of the surprise stories of the 2008 season. How big a surprise? That remains to be seen...
  • Dean and Bill have combined to build a powerhouse in Crystal Lake. This mid-market team is no joke: they will be contending in '08 and far into the future.
  • I see Omaha and Fargo having an opportunity to make some noise in the Great Lakes division.
  • Lordy, the Desert hills is a tough division. Good luck calling a winner here. I will say that Reno massively improved their team with their recent free agent signings.

Pretty accurate predictions there! I'm personally pleased with tabbing Gloucester as a team to watch. :D

wishful thinking about CL, i guess, but who could have predicted this? still, i think their run skewed the rest of the group downward. again, a bit over-optimistic about omaha's turnaround (though it's coming!)
