Our first News and Notes of the season finds the hometown hero's in 1st place of the Great Lakes Division, besting the Canton Longshoreman and Crystal Lakes Sandgnats by 3 games each 13 games into the season. There's been some surprising performances out of players not typically thought of as been stars, and also a welcome return of the staff ace on the pitching side. Some highlights below:
Catcher Carlos Galvan, in the last year of team control and possible free agent at the end of the season, has a .992 OPS and has been on fire as of late. Second baseman Tony Brown, a minor league invite in spring training, has proven his value thus far by leading the team with a 1.167 OPS and playing above average defense at second base.
Ace Ernesto Molina is back and has been dominating in his first few starts sporting a 1.64 ERA and more than a strikeout an inning. Excitement had been building prior to the season in Fargo over the prospect of Molina and last year's surprise breakout, Manual Hernandez, getting a shot at holding spots in the rotation together and taking it to the league. So far so good.
