As a big Micheal Burton fan, I'd have to say he has a great chance of being the earliest Wunderkind winner out of this year's draft class. Plate discipline is something I look at when considering how quickly a player can advance, and Burton has that in spades: 16 walks vs. just 4 Ks. And of course he's hitting .361, surely a positive sign.
I also wonder about Larry Cox as a potential dark horse candidate... he seems to have a Todd Hansen-like skill set.
On the pitching side, how about closer Enrico "General" Rosado for a potential fast riser? It's usually easier for relievers to rise through the ranks quickly and Rosado is truly a wicked closer prospect.

Yeah, of course as far as ratings go I really won't have a good idea until after thursdays sim, but my main issue with Burton is that he is getting less abs and game experience as those I mentioned, which means he may need some more seasoning in the minors before being able to compete at the PEBA level

Re: Draft pool chatter
I don't know...my scouts all have him at his peak already, they think he's going to basically take the money and suck. I don't think he should go any higher than, oh, say, .....24th.Calzones wrote:Always a little fun to speculate about the draft pool.
Off the top of my head, the first pick has to be SP Markus Hancock. The guy is 100% Grade A Prime STUD.
2007, 6-4 2.72, 82.2 ip, 4 walks, 109 k's.
FOUR walks, ONE HUNDRED NINE punchouts.
His control has slipped a notch so far this year, as he has already matched last years walk total with 4 through 34.2 innings while punching out 42.
His Loyalty, Intelligence, and Work Ethic are all good. He may stick it to you in contract negotations, but he'll be worth every penny. Great endurance as well. My scouts show his PRESENT ratings as better than a good number of regular starters in PEBA. This guy will need very little seasoning, he'll be ready in 1 to 1.5 years.
There is no way he can't be #1. Unless there is a complete moron drafting first.
I mean, I have some money to risk it, I wouldn't want anyone else having to spend that much on a high pick just to see him fizzle.

Here's an interesting question: what player have your scouts disagreed about the most? For me it's been RF Gavin Lang. Two of my scouts think he'll be a solid major league outfielder. Two think he's AA material, and one thinks he doesn't even have the skills to cut it in pro baseball.

let's see, the discrepencies amongst my scouts
Big one with SP Edgar Fernandez. Head scout thinks he's a 4.5 star stud. Rest of the scouts believe he will be a 1* busboy.
Sp Bo Hancock. Scout Kelly Stewart believes Hancock will be a 4.5 star stud. My other scouts have threatened to quit if I draft him.
Sp Matt Hancock. Two of my scouts think he possesses 4.5 star ability, but I don't trust their opinions on pitching. My other scouts rate him 1*, but with enough control to get to the majors. Profiles similiar to Lorenzo Herrera and Ramon Ornelas. I might look at him late if he is still around.
SP David Jackson. Two of my scouts like him at 4.5 stars. Most of the rest think he'll be a AAA pitcher at best. Does have some interesting control numbers and just 18, so I am sorting keeping an eye on him late.
SP Jim Park. My head scout hates him. All the rest love him. Just 17 years old.
SP Brian Watson. My second best pitching scout loves him, 4.5 stars. My other scouts say he couldn't find the plate if he was sitting at the table and you gave him a GPS device.
SP Colm Webster. My two best pitching scouts say marginal AAA guy. Two others say he has multi star potential. Just 18, and profiles well in a lot of ways, especially the control numbers at HS this season.
MR Dave Copeland. Head scout says 3.5 stars. Other scouts suggest drafting 57 year old janitor from Dubuque instead.
MR Mike Gorman. Head scout says he'll be working at a car wash within a year. My other scouts all say he's headed for the HOF. The numbers at Oregon State do make him intriguing.
MR Will Hall. My second pitching scout thinks he is a 4.5 star stud. The other 5 say he is a future mopup man at Tempe's single A affiliate.
MR Richard Lauder. Second best pitching scout loves him. All the rest are laughing hysterically.
MR Anthony Edwards. Another pitcher that Conklin likes. The other scouts are in agreement that Edwards will dissappear under mysterious circumstances before ever making it to Taku.
MR Bob Rice. Two scouts say 5*. But theirs are not the opinions I trust on pitching. The other scouts say he'll have difficulty making the bullpen of the beer softball league.
MR Norm Wells. Conklin say HOF for this gu. The other scouts say journeyman cannon fodder at AAA.
CL Samuel Davidson - two best pitching scouts say 4.5 star closer. The other 3 think he is better suited to be a 1.5 star middle man.
CL Ronald Ferris. One of my scouts scouted him last season, and rated him 4*. This year, 5 scouts took a look, and they all came up with 1*. Interesting, considering his numbers are actually better this year.
I'll look at some discrepencies amongst the hitters shortly.

C Sam Kettley - my head scout hates him. All the other scouts and even SISA say 4.5 or 5*. Great arm behind the plate. 18 years old. I'm leaning towards over riding my head scout on this one if Kettley lasts very long in the draft. His numbers this year make him worth the look.
C Chase Horn - two of my scouts say he has 5* potential. The rest say now way. His numbers at Tulane this season suggest he has a future selling encyclopedia's.
C Tom White - head scout says 3* potential. Others all say future contestant on the Price Is Right.
C Jesus Concepcion - one scout says put him in the HOF yesterday. The other 4 say he might be a marginal major leaguer but nothing real special.
1b Dave Harrell - 3 scouts say 4*. The other two say he'll be lucky to hit his weight even on the Jenny Craig plan.
3b Mike Herr. Head scout says don't bother. Two scouts say 3* and another says 4.5 star stud at the hot corner.
3b Ernesto Burgos. 3 scouts say 5* star. Two scouts say 1*. Pretty clear differences of opinion on this guy.
3b Joe Silver. I have 6 scouting reports on Silver. 5 say 5*. One says 1*. Man, is Conklin going to feel stupid. Silver is one of my favorites in this draft, though he will never fall far enough for me to grab him.
3b Nathan Wheeler. 4 scouts say don't bother. Conklin says first round pick. I don't think I want Conklin scouting the hot corner any more.
3b Collin Anderson. Only scout Kelly Stewart thinks he will be anything, rating him a 4.5 potential. The other scouts doubt he will make it to AA. Considering he is not even starting at the college level, he won't get draft by the Calzones.
SS elliot McCoy. Head scout says he is a 4.5 star potential fixture in someone's infield. The other scouts say journeyman always fighting for a job.
LF bill Rice. Three 5* ratings, and two 1* ratings on his potential. Hmm, defense, speed....hmmmm
CF Paul Buggins. Kelly Stewart says 1* and never makes it past AAA. ALl the rest say 4*, very good player who does a lot of things above average.

What happens if we only pre-rank 120 players? Will the computer make decisions for us if our list runs out, or draft the first player alphabetically? I don't think I'm going to have time to enter my list beyond 120 guys.
Oddly enough, my odds of making the draft tomorrow went from 0% to 1% today. Still not enough to get me there, though.

You will need to select the aoutdraft tab and It will do the rest of the work for you.Coal Sox wrote:What happens if we only pre-rank 120 players? Technically nothing will happen; the utility will just stop making picks for you. When I see that's happened, I'll turn on the "Auto-draft" feature for you. At that point the utility will start making picks for you.Coal Sox wrote:What happens if we only pre-rank 120 players?
