Interesting baserunning play

#1 Post by roncollins »

Cubs have the bases loaded, one out. Sterling Castro hitting. He grounds it to the short stop on a slow hop, who flips to second for a force out. The second baseman turns the pivot, but throw is a little high and late, so Castro beats it. Bryant, who was on second base, never breaks stride, rounds third and scores without a throw.

Castro gets a 6-4 force out, and two RBI.

That doesn't happen very often. :)

That's some nice work from the 3rd base coach there

I'm not sure the coach was on it. It looked like a baserunner decision.

Or fast-forward 20 years to just last October - it was the little things like this that has the Giants winning three titles in this nice little run!

Yeah it wouldn't really be a 3rd base coach's say.. in most cases (I didn't see the play yet), he would simply be pointing where the ball is and coming down the line himself to see the play unfold, but ultimately the play is right in front of the runner and it would be his read.

As a Cubs fan, I was listening to that game on the radio. It was the base runners decision. Kris Bryant was even a rookie as well, Joe Maddon was ecstatic that the rookie made such good choices and had that kind of awareness. My radio commentators said he was going nuts over on the bench.
