Gregorius in Eenhorn's Footsteps

#1 Post by Lions »

I love this:
http://www.ad.nl/ad/nl/1021/Meer-sport/ ... kees.dhtml

The Dutch news is highlighting the fact that Jeter's career is now bookended by Dutch players, with Eenhoorn on the squad at the start of Jeter's career, and Gregorius now slated to take over. Eenhoorn is from Rotterdam and has been a leading figure in the Dutch national team program, which has had a lot of success. Gregorius was born in Amsterdam but resides in Curacao, one of the constituents of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

FWIW, Eenhoorn means unicorn in Dutch.

I covered the murder trial of Ira Einhorn, "the Unicorn Killer." He killed his GF, stuffed her body in a trunk, then tried to figure out how to mummify her, but her body fluids leaked out of the trunk, so the neighbors noticed, so then he was arrested, then let out on bail and fled the country and was caught 25 years later living the good life in France. At trial, he took the stand and said the CIA killed her.

I'm not making this up. I met the guy.

Sorry to completely derail the thread.

The Sci-Fi angle would be that it turns out he IS an Eenhoorn!!! Like a werewolf, he turns every Orange Friday into an Eenhoorn and ravages villages in France until the CIA captures him... or whatever the CIA equivalent is in France...

I came into this thread with little expectation and left knowing more than I ever thought I would about unicorns, the Dutch language, and mummification. 8)

By the way, I hope I didn't come across as too flip about that murder. During the course of the trial I got to know the siblings of the victim, who fought for 25 years to see their sister's killer tried and convicted, and I saw first-hand their grief and desire for justice. It was a terrible tale, and truly bizarre.
