New Orleans Trendsetter Beat

By Scott Plack

Fans in New Orleans are eagerly awaiting the draft, ready to celebrate and cheer on their new superstars. But the fans aren’t the only ones with so much riding on the draft. For first year manager Trent Harmon, the draft won’t end too soon, because for him when the draft ends he gets to really go to work.

“This is a great time for the PEBA. Everybody is going to have a shot at being decent, maybe even great. Of course, it’s the injuries and the unpredictability of players that leave teams that were destined for greatness in the gutters, “says Harmon.

Tanner and Harmon have been spending a lot of time pouring over draft sheets and player profiles. When asked exactly what the two were going to be looking for Harmon smiled and then said. “Players that can bring us a championship just like everyone else. To be more specific, we are looking to avoid players who are one dimensional. If a player can hit, but stinks in the field then they will automatically go down in value. Tanner and I may be young but at heart we are old school. Defense and pitching wins championships. My team will be fundamentally sound, first and foremost, and the offensive production will fall in place.”

Don't forget, homeruns draw crowds!! Of course, being the PEBA’s inaugural season won’t hurt either. New happening always draw crowds and the owners are banking on the PEBA’s staying power, its continuous draw far into the future.

While preparation for the draft has equaled a lack in sleep for both the GM and the manager, Tanner indicated that “the rest afterwards would be much sweeter with a good selection of players.”

Both Harmon and Tanner are younger than quite a few of the players they are evaluating. One might say that New Orleans is a veritable youth movement, and hopefully that energy and passion will bleed over into the win-loss column. Speaking, off the record, with a few of the players waiting to be drafted, the reaction to such a young duo was very positive. Several players stated that they would love to be on a team like the Trendsetters, especially in a city like New Orleans.

All in all, things are looking up here in New Orleans as the city waits in anticipation. Don’t forget Saturday will be a special look at the Trendsetters newly selected players, and you won’t want miss that!

Go New Orleans!!!
