Starting the process of getting a bit younger, and decided it was worth the short-term performance hit to avoid the possibility of getting caught out by Kodo's contract.

Re: Trade Between LUP and KUW
I like this deal from Lupin's perspective. Matsumura has the chance to be good if we can get his control to be only decent. His stuff is great. At the same time Kodo is probably good to be rid of at this point. He recent injury and age make his being able to contribute at the level he is being paid a dicey proposition.
The move is higher risk for Kuwana I think. But at the reduced price of about $6.25M in 2019, Kodo is a reasonable risk to take with his popularity. Mark has shown the willingness to add risky contracts with popular veteran players. He made a similar move with me earlier this year when I dealt him "Wheels" for the same reasons Kodo was dealt here. There is something to be said for trying to keep fan interest high while rebuilding. The risk might not even be quite as high as it seems on the surface. Players rarely play past 40 in OOTP, which Kodo will be for the 2020 season. Maybe he calls it quits before the end of his deal.

I agree overall, Kevin. If Kodo retires this is a good overall deal for Kuwana, but I did it more because I'm hoping to be competing sooner than some might think (not this year, but maybe next...we'll see), and I didn't want to risk hamstringing the organization with a $10M anchor in case I'm right. Kodo will keep cash flowing in Kuwana while the Steel Dragons rebuild. If Matsumura does anything the deal will look better for me.

Re: Trade Between LUP and KUW
That was a major tipping point to saying yes was his age. The contract is a big one but I am 90% sure he does not play into his 40s.

My apologies! I got in the rut of forgetting about the trade forums during the post season. I will verify and process this trade for our next sim (8/14).

Don't worry, Dan; that happened to me every off-season. I totally sympathize.
