The histories of the players you select will be updated to note the honor you are bestowing upon them. You need do no more than list the hyperlinked names of the players, along with their current position and league level, but you are of course welcome and encouraged to provide an explanation for your selections - we want to get to know the future of your franchise!

My first choice made the majors just before the September 1 deadline and played well enough to make the playoff roster. Is there a limit to the number of plate appearances he can have and still be my Minor League Hitter of the Year?

I always enjoy seeing how many award winners from around the league were on my draft lists in years past.

•San Antonio Calzones de Laredo Minor League Hitter of the Year: 1b James McJannett(AAA)
23 year old James McJannett wins the organizations Minor League Hitter of the Year award for the second time in his 3 pro seasons. On the season the young left handed hitter batted .303 with a .373 OBP, piling up 44 doubles, 15 HR, and 72 RBI along the way. During the course of the season, he had a 28 game hitting streak and a player of the week award. Unfortunately, despite his performance, there is no room on the San Antonio roster for him any time soon and his quickest path the PEBA level could be through a trade.

•San Antonio Calzones de Laredo Minor League Pitcher of the Year: SP Naruhiko Mizuno (SS-A)
The 18 yr old Mizuno was just one of a number of surprises at SS-A Taku this season, posting an 8-3 mark with a 3.06 ERA in 12 starts as well as 6 relief appearances, helping to lead the Winds to a 56-34 record, the best showing ever for a Taku team. Mizuno boasts excellent control, posting a 4/1 k/w ratio on the season as well as a 1.16 WHIP. Mizuno can bring gas at 95 MPH. He'll need to develop a third pitch if he ever expects to start at the PEBA level, but he is just 18 yrs old so there is plenty of time.

The only eligibility criteria are the ones listed in the initial post in this thread.

  • Tempe Knight Minor League Hitter of the Year: OF Danny Meyers (AA)
  • Tempe Knights Minor League Pitcher of the Year: SP Kenny Ashley (AA)
Tempe Knight Minor League Hitter of the Year
Image
Danny Meyers
Danny was the Knights 5th round pick in the 2015 draft. He's a small scrappy player with intangibles that may go unnoticed by the novice fan. He works deep counts, has above average speed, and isn't afraid to lay down a bunt for the good of the team. In 2016 he batted .284/.387/.479 in 510 plate appearances split between A and AA. His 47 doubles and 8 triples were both tops in the entire Tempe organization. He also ranked second in extra base hits and 5th in RBI, BB, and OBP. Scouts opinions differ greatly on the 22 year old Myers. Depending on who you talk to, he could be a .400 OBP 50 Doubles guy or he could just be meh. Only time will tell.

Honorable Mentions
Tommy Washington (probably should have won. Deducted points for 164 PEBA at bats)
Jason Perkins
Tempe Knight Minor League Pitcher of the Year
Image
Kenny Ashley
Kenny Ashley is one of the big reasons why Tempe feels the have a grossly under rated farm system. How is this guy not a top 100 prospect? 20 year old lefty starters who strikeout a batter an inning at AA aren't too common. For the 2016 season he compiled a 10-10 record with a 3.24 ERA combined between A and AA. The Knights feel that Ashley has potential beyond what most see. He has tremendous work ethic and his velocity is constantly improving. Scout Matt Pratt tells us that he expects Kenny Ashley to be hitting 95 on the gun by the time he enters the PEBA. With a stellar 2016 under his belt, there is at least some credibility to the Knights over hyping.

  • Crystal Lake Minor League Hitter of the Year: SS Emilio Manuel (AAA)
  • Crystal Lake Minor League Pitcher of the Year: SP Herb Martin (AAA)
Evansville Tri-Stater SS Emilio Manuel wins his second consecutive Minor League Hitter of the Year award after annihilating his RML competition, albeit for only 373 PA's appearances in 2016. Manuel took his game to another level this season posting a slash line of .359/.513/.552 with an absurd BB to K ratio of more than 2 to 1. Despite missing the season's final 3 months with a strained hamstring, Manuel takes home the award that may be re-named in his honor.

Manuel's teammate, SP Herb Martin wins the 2016 Minor League Pitcher of the Year award for Crystal Lake after posting another impressive season. In his first trip through the GBB, Martin turned in a line consisting of 12 wins versus 6 losses, an ERA of 2.45 across 165 innings, to go along with 139 strikeouts. Martin was the runner-up to current Gnat Chris White in last year's POY competition, and will be looking to break camp next spring with the big club.

London’s Minor League Hitter of the Year

Image
Juan Hernández

To be honest with an aging farm system it was difficult to pick a hitter that deserved the award that met the criteria but the panel are happy that Juan is a worthy winner. Drafted eighth overall in 2015, Juan spent his first pro year in Lo-A Maui where he featured in 82 games and managed to hit .210/.278/.285 in 281 AB’s. In 2016 he spent the whole year in Hi-A Dover where he made 107 appearances with 386 AB’s. His slash line improved to .282/.329/.386 and he almost doubled his hits from 59 to 109. He is sure handed in defence, with a ZR rating of 17.1 and an EFF of 1.089. Juan has what it takes to make it in the London organisation but freely admits that he has to work on his plate discipline, having only walked just over 20 times, and is keen to cut down on his errors with rose from 8 to 12 in 2016. Juan missed a month with a strained groin in late August but still won the NAFTA A AWL Glove Wizard Award at SS for 2016

London’s Minor League Pitcher of the Year

Image
Leonard ‘Snacks’ Carver

There was only one possible winner here, 21 year old ‘Snacks’ has been tipped for stardom since he was drafted fifth overall in 2014. He went straight into Double-A Montréal but a 2-5, 5.30 ERA record showed it was a bit too much for him.
In 2015 he went 7-7, 4.04 in 18 starts while with Hi-A Dover before heading back to Montréal. Surgery to remove bone chips in his elbow held him back a bit there but he still managed to go 4-2 in only seven starts with a 4.09 ERA. Starting 2016 in Montréal he only had three starts (2-1, 3.32) before he got the call to Triple-A Worcester. There he quickly showed the class of a first-round draft pick going 10-4 with a 2.76 ERA in 26 starts. June was a good month for him as he was voted to his first pro All-Star game and picked up the AML pitcher of the month award. He featured in his first play-off game when he pitched Worcester to a 2-0 victory over the Chesapeake Bay Oysters, going eight innings, walking one and striking out seven.
He headed for London at the conclusion of Worcester’s play-off run and while he will be disappointed with his 1-3, 5.40 record few would bet against him making a permanent home there. His one win was a four-hit shut-out of the 2015 PEBA Champions Gloucester Fishermen

The Alleghenies had 4-6 prospects have B-grade seasons, making this year's Hitter of the Year and incredibly close, and boring, contest without any A-grade standouts. In the end Bryan Fairholme picked up the trophy to go along with his AA Glove Wizard Award. He looks like West Virginia's centerfielder of the future - but with a limited ceiling.

The Pitcher of the Year award was no contest, though, as 2014 2nd round pick Carrillo grew into form at Hi-A in his second season at age 20. He has a long way to go, but he looks good right now.

  • Aurora Minor League Hitter of the Year: LF Artie Thompson (AA/A)
  • Aurora Minor League Pitcher of the Year: CL Terry Burns (AA)
Thompson was a second round pick (#54 overall) in 2015. After a stellar first pro season in 2015 in which he hit 19 HR and had 50 RBI while hitting .320 in 54 game, Artie began 2016 at SLRC (A) where in 24 games he hit .402 with 12 HR and 26 RBI. He was then promoted to AA Gatineau where he played 91 games, hitting .321 with 19 HR and 62 RBI.

Burns was a 3rd round pick in 2013 (#80 overall). Burns has had three successful seasons at each level of pro ball, but 2016 was the first in which he got a chance to work exclusively in the closer position. Burns posted a 4-2 record with 41 saves in 43 opportunities. In 58 IP he gave up 42 H and only 2 HR. He struck out 68, walked 20 and gave up only 9 runs on the year.

LONGSHOREMEN ANNOUNCE WINNERS OF ORGANIZATIONAL AWARDS
Canton (AP) As a teaser to a soon-to-be-released organizational report of its top 25 prospects, the Canton Longshoremen today released the winners of its Minor League Hitter of the Year and Minor League Pitcher of the Year Awards. The awards and prospect rankings are the result of votes taken by an anonymous panel with members of the local and national press, scouts inside and outside of the organization, and performance analysts inside and outside the organization.
Image
In his second season as a professional, the 7th round draft pick produced a season that was a virtual carbon copy of his first. Gustafson hit .284 with 27 HR and 89 RBI, scoring 64 runs while winning two NAFTA Amber Waves League Player of the Week Awards and the July Batter of the Month Award for a hot month that saw him hit .310 with 11 HRs. That followed his 2015 Short Season-A debut, where he hit .284 with 20 HR and 69 RBI in roughly a half-season equivalent. The panel ranks Gustafson as the organization's 9th best position player prospect and its 15th best overall prospect.
Image
An indication of the state of the Longshoremen's minor league system as the calendar turned from 2015 to 2016, Castro was not a member of the organization until shortly before the season started; he was acquired in a cutdown day trade for former top prospect CF Jeffrey Wolfe who was a victim of a roster crunch and the major league contract that he was able to negotiate with the prior Canton regime when selected #11 overall in the 2014 draft. Skipping AA ball at the precocious age of 21, Castro parlayed his high-90s fastball into 27 starts, a 10-9 record, a 3.55 ERA, and an impressive 131/53 K/BB ratio. The panel sees Castro as the 5th best pitching prospect in the organization and its 11th best prospect overall.
