Want to know how busy/out of touch with real baseball I am right now? I just head about this. Fausto Carmona signs a multiyear deal worth a guaranteed $15 million, and it can be worth up to $48 million over 7 years with incentives. The final 3 years are club options and, if exercised, would buy out his first two years of free agency.
I'm on my way out the door so I can't type much, but my initial impression: Fantastic. I realize that signing a pitcher long-term is always a risky proposition, but the salaries in the four guaranteed years are low enough that the risk is mitigated. The fact that each of the final (expensive) three years are club options gives the team ample protection. Fausto is set for life and the Indians have locked up yet another core young player. Bravo!
