I have five, maybe six days off. Which means I plan to write another 50 or 75 thousand words, whichever comes first.

Here's the deal. I am going back and looking at the 2007 and 2008 drafts, maybe even 2009 if I have time. If you would like to offer any input about any of the players drafted by your team in those years, send it to me via private message. Of course, you can choose to offer nothing, that's fine. My hatchet is quite sharp.....

I'm assuming this is just the amateur draft.

I wouldn't mind seeing someone's take on the inaugural draft. I wasn't with the league at its inception so I'm curious to see how that draft went. How many late round stars were found? How many busts in the first round?

Florida, strange as it may seem, apparently there is in fact no complete record of the PEBA inaugural draft! For such a pivotal event it is rather shrouded in mystery.

The other interesting feature was that after the draft, many teams were way over budget (salaries are generated somewhat randomly), so they were allowed to drop $10 million (I think this was the amount?) of players with no penalty. Thus a lot of guys drafted were dropped before ever playing in PEBA. Palm Springs' 7th-round pick, SP Max Nelson, for example--he was released, immediately signed with a Japanese team, and has been in the LRS ever since. I wish now I'd tried harder to trade the guy, since as it ended up I basically threw away my 7th-round pick for nothing.

In the 2007 Almanac if you go under PEBA page and look at "Transactions," you will notice that it has the inaugural draft but it only displays the first several rounds.

But if you go to any team page, you can see the whole team's inaugural draft history under "Transactions."
