New Jersey’s 2038 Minor League Hitter of the Year:
1B Roberto Nae (SS-A), a former 6th round pick in the 2037 draft, improved leaps and bounds over his 2037 campaign with the Hoops. Nae posted a .312/.387/.685 line while belting 45 homeruns and plating 112 RBI. His dominance this season was on display especially against lefties where he hit an impressive .400 for the season. The big question will be whether Nae is called up to the Crooners or Consigliere next season as he continues his growth.

New Jersey’s 2038 Minor League Pitcher of the Year:
SP Nariaki Onodera (Hi-A), coming over in a trade with the Victoria Orcas back in 2034, Onodera came over as a 18 year old and has grown in each season since. The ace of a solid Hoboken Crooners staff was impressive during the season with a 13-4 record and 2.57 ERA with a career high of 7.2 K/9 to go along with 2 shut outs during the season and an even more critical shut out of the Bankers in game 1 of the NAFTA Trophy Series. He was impressive in the playoffs where he helped lead the Crooners to a Championship win against the National City Bankers with a 2-1 record and 1.55 ERA.

Kim had a very solid and consistent season, hitting for 149 wRC+ in A-ball while slashing .341/.410/.530. Also stealing 31 bases and was slightly above average defensively.
César Echevarría shot up through the minors this past season, starting at A ball for 8 starts and a 2.5 WAR, then AA for 10 starts and 2.1 WAR, and making 6 starts at AAA accruing 1.3 WAR for a total of 6.3 WAR. Should be pushing for a spot in the majors next season.

SS 2038 Minor league hitter of the Year- LF Herman Hill(R)
  • Hill was originally drafted by Yuma in the 6th round in 2037. He dealt to SS in a deal centered around IF Noah Hill. His arrival in SD has been a revelation. The stat line speaks for itself: .305/.415./1.288 with an astounding 56 HR, 111 RBI, and 275 TB in only 378 PA. Those 56 HR are the second most ever hit in a season in the IBC (record is 57), the 275 TB and 111 RBI tied the All-Time marks. He was awarded the IBC Batter of the Month in August, IBC LF Platinum stick, IBC Outstanding Hitter Award, and he played in the 2038 PEBA All-Star Futures game. That season will be hard to top. The real question is how he projects in to the future. Offensively, he has the potential to be an impact contributor. His HR power would play perfectly in SS, his GAP and EYE would pair with it productively. His contact might limit him to being the big side of a platoon, but SS has no problem doing that. Defensively he seems on track to be a serviceable LF, maybe a RF in the future if he has luck in Winter Ball. Timing wise, he is multiple seasons away from PEBA. Where he starts the season is an open question. He will start 2039 at only 19, so he is still a fit in rookie ball, but the desire for more PA's could even propel him all the way to Marduk. Either way, he likely won' be clubbing homers in SS until 2041, at the earliest.
SS 2038 Minor League Pitcher of the Year SP Thomas Vail (R)
  • Tommy, the scion of Evas' GM Kevin Vail, was drafted #1 overall in 2037. "The Goblin Prince" followed up a solid 2037 (3.62 FIP and 2.8 WAR in 112.2 IP) with a better 2038 (2.70 FIP and 4.0 WAR in 118.1 IP). He finished the season strong, winning the IBC pitcher of he month award for September. He is currently ranks as the #80 prospect in PEBA according to OSA. Looking forward, his Stuff and Movement definitely project as plus on the PEBA level, the question is his Control. He seems likely to allow around 4 BB per 9, which isn't great, but it's serviceable. He seems on track to arrive in Evas' rotation around 2041.
Follow Up on 2032's winners:
  • LF Cris Krebs, as predicted last year, Krebs was dealt this off season (to FLA). He was consistently a good player, but not a great one, even against LHP. Hopefully he finds himself in FLA.
  • SP Dong-hak "Entrop" Yi - Yi finally lived up to his talent, albeit after having been moved to KEN. He seems certain to win the IL 2038 Golden Arm after dropping an amazing 6.5 WAR season. He never performed anything like that in an Evas uniform. Maybe he really did just need a change of scenery. Still, that stat line would have gone a long long way to help the Evas in a very disappointing 2038.
Follow Up on 2033's winners:
  • 1B/3B Scotty "The Grinch" Weeks had a rough 2038. A year removed from an outstanding 2037 which saw him lead the SL in SLG, his star in SS had faded. Doug Knox made him redundant to some extent, and The Grinch seemed to take that to heart. Instead of thriving at 1B, his production collapsed (.220/.269/.709). He was worth -0.2 WAR over 395 PA's in SS and the SS front office seemed to be of the opinion that his ceiling had lowered significantly. Ultimately, he was dealt to the Farstriders in a deal for 3B Roberto Tall. Perhaps he just needs a change of scenery too.
  • SP Dong-hak "Entrop" Yi - See above.
Follow Up on 2034's and 2035's winners:
  • DH António Gómez - Gomez seems to still have the potential to be a useful bat vs. RHP, but he only got 25 PA's in ARL in 2038. Still, he seems to be capable of being a useful player if given the opportunity.
  • SP Dong-hak "Entrop" Yi - See above.
Follow Up on 2036 & 2037's winners:
  • Doug Knox arrived in full force on the Evas in 2038. At only 23 years old, he was one of the best hitters in the SL with a .299/.358/.531 line. He led the SL with 51 doubles and was 4th with 81 XBH. Scouts think he still has some room to improve too. He could be a future MVP candidate on he offensive prowess alone. As good as his offense was, his glove work was not good. He posted the worst ZR among all PEBA 3B's at -8.1 as well as the worst EFF at 0.941. That might have been acceptable if Scotty Weeks were still leading the SL in slugging and playing 1B, but that didn't happen. So with Weeks gone, DK will slide over to 1st in 2039 with the much more sure handed Roberto Tall taking over duties at 3rd. Still, Knox's future could hardly be brighter
  • O'Halloran was great in AAA for most of 2038 (2.50 FIP and 1.8 WAR in 76 IP). He got a cup of coffee in PEBA at the end of the season and was solid (3.67 FIP and 0.3 WAR in 12 IP). He will start 2039 in the Evas' pen and should be there for several seasons.

Amsterdam Minor League Hitter of the Year:
CF Jorge 'Bucky' Rosas (AAA)

Rosas gets the nod here in what was a bit of a wide open race. Several players in the minors posted similar numbers but at different levels, but Rosas did it at the highest level of the minors. His first AAA season saw him hit .308 with 42 stolen bases and a .367 OBP. He's not a power hitter, but suits Amsterdam well in terms of his hitting profile, where it's hard to hit home runs anyway.

Amsterdam Minor League Pitcher of the Year:
SP Andrés Martínez (SS-A)

Martínez won the Alaskan League Outstanding Pitcher Award after going 16-2 with a 1.56 ERA in 21 starts. He averaged over 7 innings per start, striking out 204 batters. His performance this year demonstrated a huge step forward, as last season he posted a negative WAR and an ERA of 5.23.

San Antonio Minor League Hitter of the Year:
LF Héctor Ramírez (A/AA/AAA)

Out of a large pool of up and coming talent, Héctor has stood out among his peers, no matter the level of play he'd faced this season. A combined 22 home runs and a 3.5 WAR at the AAA level and a .317 average at the AAA level mean he's got a long, productive career ahead of him.

San Antonio Minor League Pitcher of the Year:
CL Jack Harris (A)

Harris has emerged as an absolute bully of RHP in the Drumright bullpen. Playing in 47 games, he managed to secure 29 wins for the club, contributing to almost half of the club's victories. We look forward to his contributions and development to come!

Gloucester Fishermen 2038 Minor League Hitter of The Year - 1B Toshiro Motsuzuki (A)
After multiple years in the rookie balls, Motsuzuki came to the single A with a strong desire to the prove that he would be in the big league sooner than later, putting up the best year of his young and vibrant professional career so far with a slashline of .322/.412/.514 that was worthy enough of an impressive 4.0 WAR. Despite having the lowest amount of HR of all the years, the man had improved his multi-base hits and produced double the double (hah) and triple. He had 26 doubles, 13 triples and 14 homers to end the season. As if that wasn't enough, he shown impressive base stealing ability that was not found in his previous years. He was 0 out of 4 and 4 out of 10 in SB vs attempts, respectively, in previous years. This year he was 16 out of 21 in the A, and proved that he could continue to develop different aspects of his game.

Gloucester Fishermen 2038 Minor League Pitcher of The Year - SP Sergio Montáñez (A)
Sergio Montanez was easily the best minor pitcher of the GLO minors this year with a groundshattering WAR of 5.9. The man had 2 complete game shutout, blanking batters left and right with his mix of fastball, slider, curveball, and a world class changeup that was near impossible to hit. He ended the year with a statline of 15-4, 2.91 ERA and 183 K (10.9 K/9). The man could do nothing wrong and was clearly the ace of the 85-43 divisional runner-up Twin Titans this year.

Niihama Minor League Hitter of the Year:

1B Oscar Simons split the year between Gakidoi (A) and Dawson City (SSA), punishing SSA level pitching and holding his own once promoted to A at age 20. Simons posted a 134 OPS+ in limited action for Gakidou, belting 7 HRs in 84 PAs. The majority of his season was with the slightly more age-appropriate Gunslingers, where Simons annihilated pitching to the tune of a 212 OPS+. His slash was a cartoonish 341/405/814, and he hit 44 HRs in 354 PAs. Simons is not expected to spend further time at A ball, and will instead debut for the AA Ikari Warriors before he turns 21.

Niihama Minor League Pitcher of the Year
:

SP Reece "Night Moves" Murray made it to AAA at the nearly overripe age of 25, and may have saved his career in the process. The former 8th round selection has never been the apple of any scout's eye, but since repeating A ball in 2036, he's managed to post solid numbers and progress to the next level, one year at a time. He pitched a career high 189.1 innings in 2038, all for the AAA Namuko Puckmen. He went 15-7, posting a 3.23 ERA. Solid, if unspectacular. His peripherals were more impressive, however: a 0.98 WHIP, 4.0 K/BB, 0.7 HR/9.
