PS Owner Bunner asks for more stolen bases, GM Sullivan responds

#1 Post by Codgers »

Hopkins Reginald Bunner, owner for the Palm Springs Codgers, sat down with his newly hired GM Rob Sullivan to outline his wishes for his organization.

One of those requests was for Sullivan to address the teams mediocre running game. In 2038 the Codgers were middle of the pack in stolen bases and Bunner wanted to see improvement in team speed and ultimately stolen bases. Sullivan responded this week by making two trades to address the request.

His first deal was with the New Jersey Hitmen acquiring LF Adam Barnes for a 2039 4th round draft pick. Barnes, who will step into the starting leftfield role with the Codgers, finished the 2038 season with 52 stolen bases while hitting .313 and driving in 56 runs. He is also a candidate to hit leadoff for the Codgers

Sullivan's second deal of the week was reached Friday afternoon trading SP Mark Stanford and prospect CL Keith Padbury to the Arlington Bureaucrats for OF Rodrigo Gutierrrez. The Codgers had decided to move on from Stanford to make room for 21 year old phenom SP Takashi Yamamoto in the starting rotation. Gutierrez was brought in to compete for a starting spot in the Codgers outfield swiped 26 bases while hitting .279 in a reserve role for Arlington.

"Adding Barnes and Gutierrez to the locker room was necessary in our quest to field a team full of major league caliber players. They not only improve our season total for stolen bases but both are also capable defenders who immediately upgrade our outfield", said Sullivan. The trades likely move last seasons starting centerfielder CF Jose Reyes to a reserve role. Reyes stoles 46 bases but hit a paltry .238 on the season as an average defender.

Asked if the trades finished the Codgers outfield makeover Sullivan replied, "I hope not, we are actively shopping to improve our team at all positions"
