@channel: The podium is on the stage at the Asheville Hotel Ballroom in Asheville, NC and as PEBA Commissioner ‘Harry’ Castle walks to the stage, lights begin flashing, the sound system plays…

Greg - Alleghenies 10:00 AM
The only trade restriction not removed is the 10/5.

Yuma:palm_tree: 10:00 AM
He just disappeared! Cool magic act.

@Brian - Tempe Well the Under has already lost
:joy:

Drew - Warriors 10:05 AM
The higher Greg gets the worse his trade offers are

Yuma:palm_tree: 10:05 AM
I think the cause-effect relationship works the other way.

Greg - Alleghenies 10:05 AM
@Drew - Warriors I don't get high

Yuma:palm_tree: 10:06 AM
Not even when you fly?

Dan - Ghosts 10:06 AM
No the world just gets low
:joy:

J.D. - Coqui 10:06 AM
In the Emerald Triangle, it's like zucchini. Everyone is giving it away.

Mike - Borealis 10:06 AM
Today we have just a few items of interest to discuss – but I’m sure that the bulk of the discussion will happen behind curtains and in the dark, dingy corners of the Ballroom…

Greg - Alleghenies 10:06 AM
Bob since I tore my Labrum, I can't fly, my arms get too tired LOL

Yuma:palm_tree: 10:06 AM
Oh, it’s pretty damn low all the time.

Drew - Warriors 10:06 AM
Oof, tore my labrum last summer. Good times

Yuma:palm_tree: 10:06 AM
Sorry to hear that, Greg.

Greg - Alleghenies 10:06 AM
@Drew - Warriors Therapy and swimming

Yuma:palm_tree: 10:07 AM
@Greg - Alleghenies You should try hot air balloons.

Mike - Borealis 10:07 AM
@channel: As Dylan has already mentioned – please send any trades you have in a separate Slack channel to me, Dylan and your trade partner. Please be sure to include the minor league level of any minor league player dealt. Once we announce the trade, please post it in the forums as normal.

Greg - Alleghenies 10:07 AM
It has helped, now I am finishing up my rehab on my herniated disc

Drew - Warriors 10:07 AM
I was demonstrating a low-crawl to some younger Soldiers and tore it. They got me a Life Alert for my birthday a few months later.

Greg - Alleghenies 10:07 AM
3 more weeks, back to playing soccer!!!

Yuma:palm_tree: 10:07 AM

Greg - Alleghenies 10:08 AM
@Yuma never give up on your dreams

Yuma:palm_tree: 10:08 AM

Mike - Borealis 10:09 AM
@channel We will move through the four days of Winter Meetings throughout our time here and any announcements of signings will be made at that time. When we are done, we will have a new file posted for you to download.
:frog:
1

Evan - Underground 10:09 AM
I love new files

Mike - Borealis 10:09 AM
Hopefully strong enough to survive the next, inevitable fall on the bike…

Yuma:palm_tree: 10:10 AM
Ouch :bike:

J.D. - Coqui 10:11 AM
At least I can download at the Airbnb I'm at.

Mike - Borealis 10:11 AM
@channel: And, of course, one of the most important things to remember is if you have Rule 5 players to protect, you must do so before Tuesday’s sim!!! Or forever hold your peace. No roster moves are allowed between Tuesday and Thursday’s sims. This is very important if you’ve traded for a Rule 5 eligible player!
10:12
And with that… We have our first trade of the 2035 Winter Meetings to announce!
:100:
1

Yuma:palm_tree: 10:12 AM

Greg - Alleghenies 10:14 AM
Williams a very uncommon name

RJ - Sandgnats 10:15 AM

Sean - Claymores 10:16 AM
was added to #winter_meetings by Drew - Warriors.

Yuma:palm_tree: 10:16 AM
You know, I think I liked these Winter Meetings better when I was still in hospital. At least the nurse brought me tea and biscuits.
:joy:

Nige - Calzones 10:17 AM
it's part of the trade, the players enter witness protection and choose a new first name

Dylan - Wind Dancers 10:17 AM
I'm sure Mike could bring some down to the Yuman table, but I don't think he's going to be willing to dress up as a nurse

Mike - Borealis 10:17 AM
Hmmmmmmmm….

Yuma:palm_tree: 10:17 AM
Send him down on his new hip-mobile!

Mike - Borealis 10:18 AM
We have our second trade of the 2035 Winter Meetings:

Yuma:palm_tree: 10:18 AM

Mike - Borealis 10:20 AM
That’s not the only deal for Shin Seiki, as they have worked our 3rd trade the Winter Meetings:

Yuma:palm_tree: 10:21 AM
Does it bother anyone else that we are meeting in the most rundown hotel in Asheville? I mean, Expedia doesn’t even list it!
:crying_cat_face:
1

Michael - Hitmen 10:21 AM
Just needs to serve liquor, that's all that matters

Yuma:palm_tree: 10:21 AM
Are you sure that’s what they’re serving?

Nige - Calzones 10:22 AM
@Yuma we're also the most rundown league in Asheville

Mike - Borealis 10:22 AM
Yuma receives RP Josh Cheney, RP Sergio Ramos, RP Manuel Cabrera (SA), RP Roberto Gomez (R) and SP Anibel Muniz (R) and the Evas receive RP Trey Calder (AAA), 3B Yakamochi Kobayashi, SS Antonio Gutierrez (A), RF Alfred McCutcheon (A) and RP Roberto Alecia (SA)

RJ - Sandgnats 10:26 AM
CL has an exclusive contract for Yuma water. No Trade rights

Yuma:palm_tree: 10:26 AM

RJ - Sandgnats 10:26 AM
<----

Yuma:palm_tree: 10:27 AM
Nice arrow. Going somewhere?

RJ - Sandgnats 10:27 AM
diving into the Colorado @ Yuma

Yuma:palm_tree: 10:28 AM
Careful, very shallow as it bends through downtown Yuma. Better diving just south of town.
:raised_hands:
1

10:30
There’s also a lake about a half hour drive north of town, but the ski boats will run you over if you’re swimming.

Jaime - Kalamazoo 10:32 AM
Sounds like fun. Diving in shallow lakes or getting hit by jet skis.

Mike - Borealis 10:32 AM
Our 4th trade of the 2035 Winter Meetings:
Madison receives:
SS Martín Gallegos
New Jersey receives:
CF Eugenio Domínguez

Michael - Hitmen 10:33 AM

Nige - Calzones 10:35 AM
Even Blockbuster encouraged you to have more than one

Mike - Borealis 10:35 AM
@channel One of todays conversations center around our 30th season - for this season, the PEBA will be waiving a portion of the CP reward for Major League Artwork and allow teams to create and add a special 30th Anniversary Logo which we will incorporate into the game!! Free of charge!!
:fire:

10:35
This idea came to me - as well as @Nige - Calzones, who had approached me with the idea…

Yuma:palm_tree: 10:36 AM

RJ - Sandgnats 10:54 AM

Mike - Borealis 10:55 AM
That’s on par with his 2035 season - disappointing…

Nige - Calzones 10:55 AM
good old Kuwana

Denny Hills - Palm Springs Codgers 10:55 AM
Maybe he just really likes the town of Kuwana

Dylan - Wind Dancers 10:55 AM
Kuwana is actually very nice

Nige - Calzones 10:56 AM
He's a fan of the Steel Dragon roller coaster ride

Mike - Borealis 10:56 AM
@channel: One of the discussions I’d like to start and get some feedback on relates to potential changes to the Winter Ball rules…
1

Yuma:palm_tree: 10:57 AM
No more strike zone!
10:57
Aluminum bats!
1

Dylan - Wind Dancers 10:57 AM
Easy there Angel Hernandez

Denny Hills - Palm Springs Codgers 10:57 AM
Playing in actual snow!

Mike - Borealis 10:57 AM
@channel As per the Constitution:
• The player must have been in the Organization all season – no recent draftees or players acquired in trade after PEBA Opening Day.

Nige - Calzones 10:57 AM
more developement for higher bribes

Yuma:palm_tree: 10:58 AM
More players permitted--brilliant!

Scott - Zephyrs 10:58 AM
Yeah, scrap that

Yuma:palm_tree: 10:58 AM
It’s a good idea, Scott

Michael - Hitmen 10:58 AM
Now with a RNG chance to actually regress instead of improve?!

Yuma:palm_tree: 10:58 AM
RNG?

Michael - Hitmen 10:58 AM
Random number generator

Denny Hills - Palm Springs Codgers 10:58 AM
Real New Guinea

Yuma:palm_tree: 10:59 AM
Well, since New Guinea ain’t real and randomness is a fiction …

Mike - Borealis 10:59 AM
@channel There had been a recommendation from a GM to strike that all together - the Board was mixed. The Commish prefers it as is - but is open minded to change. Basically, it’s my thoughts that a player should have spent some time in a teams Organization.

Jay - Malts 10:59 AM
Wait, guys can go to WL and get worse?

Probably an unpopular opinion but I actually like that restriction. It promotes forethought and strategic planning.
:100:
5

Kevin - Evas 11:00 AM
I don't see why why the restriction should be there at all, personally. It doesn't add anything or protect anyone.
:100:
2

Nige - Calzones 11:00 AM
No, I think we ought to retain it

Greg - Alleghenies 11:00 AM
I like it how it is. Though at times it makes me go grr (edited)

Jay - Malts 11:00 AM
Keep it.

Kevin - Evas 11:00 AM
At least allow traded for players who meet the other criteria.

Denny Hills - Palm Springs Codgers 11:01 AM
It doesn't make much sense to me. Why wouldn't an organization send someone they recently acquired to Winter Ball?

Yuma:palm_tree: 11:01 AM
To help them improve?

Andy - Fishermen 11:01 AM
I don't care about the restriction but I would be down to have 2 players sent every year

Mike - Borealis 11:01 AM
As JR would talk about the ‘Fog of War’ concept, having to plan ahead is part of that strategic thinking. I know I’;m always thinking a season or two ahead - and watching prospects grow (or not) and changing my mind…

Yuma:palm_tree: 11:01 AM
Why not 5?
:fire:
1
:joy:
1

Andy - Fishermen 11:02 AM
I will take 5.

Dan - Ghosts 11:02 AM
@Andy - Fishermen you can do two now.

Yuma:palm_tree: 11:02 AM
Trading for a young player is also thinking ahead.
:100:
1

Andy - Fishermen 11:02 AM
I thought it's 1 WT and 1...training camp?
11:02
not sure abotu the words

Yuma:palm_tree: 11:02 AM
What

Nige - Calzones 11:02 AM
two is a nice number - a pitcher & a batter. They can hold hands all the way

Yuma:palm_tree: 11:02 AM
is WT?

Dylan - Wind Dancers 11:03 AM
WB has always been 2 players

Yuma:palm_tree: 11:03 AM
Since we expanded the lower level minor leagues, why not expand WB?

Dylan - Wind Dancers 11:03 AM
Special Coaching is just a sub-section of WB

Nige - Calzones 11:04 AM
Special coaching was the extension of WB

Dylan - Wind Dancers 11:04 AM
Well.. let's see what else Mike has to say about it...

Jaime - Kalamazoo 11:04 AM
I left Jose Valle in AAA all season to keep him under the major league service limit. I like there being some strategy to the process. Sometimes you eat $15M in a season to make winter ball work, other times you keep a guy in your system for a year before doing it. I think the idea and execution work well for our league.
:100:
2

Yuma:palm_tree: 11:05 AM
Yuma’s rosters are full of young players with some potential. I would like to send more of them to WB to realize some of that potential. And that does require thinking and planning ahead.

Mike - Borealis 11:06 AM
@channel: I have a second thought - and this may make the first conversation moot for some. Last season we changed the Improve Personnel option from one personnel with up to 3 rolls to multiple personnel, but still just a total of 3 rolls - so those 3 rolls can be spread over three personnel, or two - or one if you so chose.

Lenny- Bears 11:06 AM
Put me in coach.

Mike - Borealis 11:07 AM
@channel I was thinking opening up Winter Ball to multiple players - but the 220 point max remains. So you could, in theory spread those points over 4 players at 55 points each, for example. (edited)

Kevin - Evas 11:07 AM
I like that too, Mike. More options.

Scott - Zephyrs 11:07 AM
We may need to update the constitution. I had forgotten about that. Not sure it is in there.

Mike - Borealis 11:08 AM
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=11131

Denny Hills - Palm Springs Codgers 11:08 AM
That makes sense to me. The true limit to WB is the CP cost to send all those guys

Dan - Ghosts 11:08 AM
@Mike - Borealis I would support that change

Evan - Underground 11:08 AM
I'm fine with keeping it as is or letting you send as many players as you want with the same point cap

Andy - Fishermen 11:08 AM
I like the CP idea

Denny Hills - Palm Springs Codgers 11:09 AM
Of course allowing that flexibility goes against the arbitrary “planning ahead” excuse for not allowing traded players to go to winter ball. If we do one we should do the other IMO
:+1:
1

Mike - Borealis 11:10 AM
@channel One thing to keep in mind is that your financial cost may rise about the $2M traditional cost of spending the 220 CP…
11:10
@Denny Hills - Palm Springs Codgers I was thinking just the opposite!

Yuma:palm_tree: 11:11 AM
Why or how will it cost more?

Scott - Zephyrs 11:11 AM
Winter Ball is expensive

Yuma:palm_tree: 11:11 AM
Really? Always seemed cheap to me.

Nige - Calzones 11:11 AM
More players to pay costs for lol

Mike - Borealis 11:12 AM
• 20-55 CP: $500,000
• 56-110 CP: $1,000,000
Spend 60 CP on three players and that’s $3M, spend the other 40 on another and that’s $3.5M…

Yuma:palm_tree: 11:13 AM
We’re talking peanuts! A fraction of a good player’s salary.

Dan - Ghosts 11:13 AM
That is a fair trade for the flexibility

Mike - Borealis 11:13 AM
Plus you can always spend CP for the cash to pay for it…

Yuma:palm_tree: 11:13 AM
Money, pffft! Who needs it?

Brian - Tempe 11:14 AM
Is this a change we'd implement for this offseason or next?

Dan - Ghosts 11:14 AM
Not Yuma anymore!

Mike - Borealis 11:14 AM

Scott - Zephyrs 11:16 AM
I prefer people wealth

Andy - Fishermen 11:17 AM
3.5M for training is still very cheap anyway. International dudes ask for 3M and they are usually garbage compare to the 3-4 players you are sending to camp.

Mike - Borealis 11:17 AM
There seems to be a strong consensus on item #2, and a mixed response to item #1. I will report back this evening, with the updated Final CP Tracker.

As is tradition… we score preseason predictions… thanks to everyone who participated. The scoring works like this:
Scoring Rules:
+1 point for each standings position you're off by
-1 point for each postseason series winner correctly identified
-1 point for correctly guessing the number of games team advance a postseason series (do not need the losing team accurate)
-1 point for getting the PEC winner
-0.5 points for identifying an end of season award winner
Lowest score wins sorta like golf.

Greg - Alleghenies 11:48 AM
I think I sucked this year

Yuma:palm_tree: 11:48 AM
Yuma, champion again!

RJ - Sandgnats 11:49 AM
Here are some fun facts....
11:49
6 out of 7 guessed at least 1 IL award winners correctly compared to only 2 in the SL
11:49
3 of 7 selected FL as the PEC winner
11:49
Most commonly correct division order from 1st to last predicted correctly was the Dixie

Denny Hills - Palm Springs Codgers 11:49 AM
Fun!

RJ - Sandgnats 11:49 AM
