DUL 2034 Minor League Hitter of the Year: CF ROBERTO “ROYAL” MADRID (AA)
Image
Cranking 42 Home Runs between AA and AAA, “Royal” Madrid of Santiago, Chile posted 201 OPS+ at Medicine Hat and raked in 99 RBIs total this year. Madrid is the 2034 Platinum Stick at First Base for the PCAL. An international amateur who joined the organization in 2030, Madrid has been blasting his way through the minor leagues with ++ power and excellent running and fielding skills.

DUL 2034 Minor League Pitcher of the Year: SP RENE PADILLA (AA)
Image
Another 2030 International Amateur out of Costa Rica, #5 BBN Prospect Rene Padilla continues to impress with his second PEBA All-Star Futures selection. The kid is a strikeout machine who soared at High A this season before getting experience with Medicine Hat. His FIP was 0.94 at A and 2.60 at AA, where he helped lead Medicine Hat to a Great Northern Cup battle against the Main Lobsters--where he pitched a 3-hit championship game with 12 strikeouts. While Medicine Hat fell to Maine in the series 3-4, it is safe to say that young Padilla has a bright future with the Warriors.

Fargo Minor League Hitter of the Year: C Kiyonobu Takahashi (SA)
Image
Kiyonobu Takahashi ran away with this award this season and it wasn't particularly close. The 23 yr old catcher earned a 4.4 WAR on .272/.448/.510 slash line good for a 216 OPS+. Takahashi was the Dinosaurs 4th round selection in 2033 and after debuting at short-season A ball last year putting up a league average bat for the level in only 119 PA, he repeated the level, this time earning more playing time (348 PA) and will almost certainly be promoted to the Dinosaurs' A ball team for the upcoming 2035 season.
Fargo Minor League Pitcher of the Year: RP Joseph Rhodes (AAA)
Image
Reliever Joseph Rhodes just made the cut-off for the award the this season with 40 total games pitched in at AAA Sioux Falls before being promoted to the majors in Fargo. As a minor league pitcher this season, he was a shutdown closer for the Lakota notching 26 saves, 11 K/9 and a 164 ERA+. He's poised to make the jump stick going into next season and will be involved in fighting for a bullpen spot for the big league club in spring training.

2034 Minor League Hitter of the Year
1B ROCKY NICHOLS (AAA)
Image

For the second straight year Nichols takes home minor league POTY honors from London. Having been promoted from AA to AAA for the season, Nichols had another stellar season finishing .312/.384/.512/.897 with a 6.1 WAR. Nichols led the entire league in many offensive categories including batting average, OBP, OPS, hits, doubles, extra base hits, OPS+, and wOBA. He was also awarded the AAA AML 2034 Platinum Stick Award at 1B and (somehow) finished 2nd in Outstanding Hitter Award voting. He was selected to his fourth consecutive All-Star Prospects game as well as the AAA All-Star game. Clearly an offense-first player, he nonetheless played 1B for 131 games and did not embarrass himself with a fielding percentage of .990 and 69 assists. Rocky Nichols is a lock to make the opening day roster in London in 2034.
2034 Minor League Pitcher of the Year
SP RICH JONES (AAA)
Image
After a one year hiatus, a starting pitcher again takes the Minor League Pitcher of the Year crown for London. Former 14th overall pick Rich Jones had an excellent AAA debut season, pitching second in the Leeds' rotation. He earned 10 wins with a 2.64 ERA over 167.1 innings. He led the rotation in ERA and was second in both strikeouts and innings pitched. He also proved excellent at keeping the ball in the yard with a 0.5 HR/9 for the year. Most notably Rush showed significant improvements in all categories despite moving from AA to AAA for the season. He allowed less HR/9, cut his BB/9 nearly in half, and increased his K/9 slightly to 7.7. He also decreased his WHIP and more than doubled his WAR to a very impressive 4.2.

SS 2034 Minor league hitter of the Year- DH António Gómez
Gomez has been a hidden gem in the SS system since signing a $2.8M contract out of Panama in 2031. Scouts love his potential to rake in SS. He seemed on track to do just that in 2032 (.336/.411/.521) in Rookie ball at age 19. He was challenged in S-A in 2033 at only 20 (.229/.341/.379), but scouts swore he was still on track and he was promoted again. He regained his form in 2033 (.276/.393/.537) earning both an All-Star appearance an a Platinum Stick in RF for NAFTA. 2035 will see him challenged again with a jump all of the way to AAA at just 22 years old. He will likely remain there at least through August. But SS is always willing to bring up a youngster when they have nothing left to prove in AAA. Expect him to log PA's in SS by 2036 at the latest.

SS 2034 Minor League Pitcher of the Year SP Dong-hak "Entrop" Yi (AAA)
I swear I am not doing this just to save some typing. SP Dong-hak "Entrop" Yi was, once again, absolutely dominant in 2034, this time in AAA (147 ERA+ & 4.9 WAR in 29 starts & 187.2 IP). After some initial success in April (131 ERA+ 36.2IP), he fell flat in May (63 ERA+ 37.1IP). But after working out the kinks, he went on to completely dominate AAA, getting better and better each month.
  • June (187 ERA+ 40.2IP)
  • July (386 ERA+ 36IP)
  • August (396 ERA+ 37IP)
At that point, there was no denying him and he finally arrived in SS. Once there, he again performed well (118 ERA+ 36IP). He also made the playoff roster. He had an excellent 0 ER & 2 IP relief appearance, a solid 2 ER & 7 IP start, and a poor 6 ER & 5.2 IP start vs the Toyama juggernaut.

Yi seems poised to be a fixture of the SS rotation and a key part of the plan to keep SS a contender far in to the future.

Follow Up on 2031's winners:
  • 1B Manny Lara burst on to the PEBA scene in 2034 as one of best rookies of the season - his balanced offensive game lead all SL batting rookies with 4.2 WAR and 126 OPS+. SS seems to have found its solution at catcher.
  • SP Dong-hak "Entrop" Yi won the SS MiL pitcher of the year award for the 4th straight year in 2034.
Follow Up on 2032's winners:
  • LF Cris Krebs was very good in rookie PEBA season, leading all SL rookies in several offensive categories: 285 BA, .427 SLG, 237 TB, 32 2B, 15 3B, 54 EBH. Krebs was dominant vs. LHP (.331/.361/.517), but unimpressive vs. RHP (.267/.286/.394). SS expects his splits to be a bit less severe in 2035 and for his overall WAR contribution to improve. Krebs seems to be a lock to hold down a PEBA roster spot from here on out, but he will need to perform better vs. RHP for him to become the star that so many projected him to be.
  • SP Dong-hak "Entrop" Yi won the SS MiL pitcher of the year award for the 4th straight year in 2034.
Follow Up on 2033's winners:
  • 1B/3B Scotty "The Grinch" Weeks had an up and down season in 2035, both performance wise and in terms of where he played. Weeks was unimpressive in April in PEBA (.679 OPS) and awful through most of May (.524 OPS). That lead to a demotion to AAA where he finished May poorly (.546 OPS) and was mediocre in June (.719 OPS). July was much better (.847 OPS) and August was fantastic (.986 OPS). That lead to a promotion back to PEBA where he finished off the season decently in September (.765 OPS). Weeks seems to be a relative liability at 3B defensively (-6.7 ZR in 561.2 IN), but a solid 1B (2.8 ZR in 538.2 IN). That combined with his weakness vs. LHP might prevent him from becoming a true core piece for SS long term. But given his potential to mash RHP (especially at home), play excellent 1B, and his cheap salary, he should be get plenty more opportunities to prove his worth in SS.
  • SP Dong-hak "Entrop" Yi won the SS MiL pitcher of the year award for the 4th straight year in 2034.

Is 4 MLPOYs in a row is a PEBA record?

Also, I really like the follow-up portion, Kevin. Will be adding that to my own next season.

Manchester Pitcher of the Year: SP Mark Cooke (AAA)

A 2029 2nd round draft pick, Cooke struggled with injuries during his initial foray into professional baseball. But having finally gotten healthy prior to the 2033 season, Cooke is now on the fast track to Manchester. Expect him to get a long look from Mauler coaches during Spring Training.

Manchester Hitter of the Year:RF Jim Daly (AA)

Offense was way down everywhere in the minors this season, and it was no different for the Maulers. Not widely recognized as one of Manchester's top offensive prospects, this 2033 3rd round draft pick has done nothing but hit since turning professional. This lefty power hitter is someone to keep an eye on; he profiles very nicely for the short right field porch in Whiten Field.

Palm Springs Minor League Player Awards 2034
Image
Palm Springs' Minor League Hitter of the Year for 2034 is right fielder Matthieu Sicco. Though just nineteen years of age, Sicco impressed enough to take home the salmon and green system's hardware. Signed as an international free agent out of Italy in 2031, Sicco began his professional career with a cup of coffee--or perhaps a bottle of formula?--with Asmara in 2033, then set the rookie league on fire when he returned this season, cranking 38 home runs and achieving a .320 batting average. With numbers like that it should come as no surprise that he racked up numerous IBC Player of the Week and Player of the Month awards en route to winning both the Platinum Stick Award at RF, and most impressively, the 2034 IBC Outstanding Hitter Award. If he can maintain his production at higher levels--he has been promoted to Lana'i City to begin 2035--the Codgers will have an impressive player on their hands.

Image
Palm Springs' Minor League Pitcher of the Year for 2034 is Lana'i City starter Ángel Reyna. The lanky Panamanian was discovered by sharp-eyed Codgers scouts and signed to a contract in September of 2030. Tabbed early on as a prospect of note, he made his debut in Asmara in 2032 after a year of seasoning at Palm Springs' international complex, and made steady progress up the minor league ladder. In 2034 he came into his own, twirling 124 strikeouts with a 1.96 ERA for the Pineapples and winning a Hawaiian League Pitcher of the Month Award in the process. With numbers like these a wardrobe of salmon and green looks to be in Reyna's future.

Minor League Hitter of the Year: SS António 'Lies and Deceit' Domínguez (A)

Domínguez earned a rapid promotion to single A Utrecht as a 20 year old, with his bat earning him 2033 Minor League Hitter of the Year. This year, with a chance to repeat at the same level, he focused on his defense. The goal was to turn him into a solid all-around player who could potentially stick at shortstop, and the effort seems to have paid off. He's now a plus defender at both middle infield positions, and while his hitting didn't improve the same extent, that defense makes him a much more interesting player. Don't be surprised to see him spend very little time at the next two levels before showing up in the PEBA.

Minor League Pitcher of the Year: SP Pat 'Vulture' Condon (AA/AAA/ML)[/list]

Condon was back in AA to start the year after making only 11 starts there in 2033. It didn't take long for him to demonstrate that he was ready for a promotion, but the team played it slow with him, promoting him after 13 starts with a 1.72 ERA. A solid showing in Eindhoven had him up in Amsterdam for an end of year start against London. He pitched great for 5 innings before needing a trip to the trainer's room. A torn UCL means he'll miss all of next year, which is frustrating after all the progress he made.

Okinawa 2034 Minor League Batter of the Year:Yin-fat Bing (R)
Image
19 year old Yin-fat Bing turned heads in the organization with his unexpected offensive output this season. While there were few bright spots in the Okinawa minor league system for batting performances, Yin-fat put together an impressive year for the Wagga Wagga Crows in the IBC, especially as a teenager. Across 296 plate appearances, Yin-fat put up a .277 average with a .371 OBP while contibuting 9HRs and 43 RBIs to pace the team. He also showed incredible pitch recognition for someone his age as he was able to draw 40 walks.

Okinawa 2034 Minor League Pitcher of the Year: SP Shou Saitou (AAA)
Image
Shou Saitou spent about 75% of his time in AAA this season also ferring up to the Okinawa squad to fill in for injuries. While he didnt perform as well as he would be liked to in the show, he was dominant in AAA with an 8-6 record over 21 starts, a 1.96 ERA, 133K's to only 10 walks and a whip of 0.79. If only he could have had some run support to go alone with his 5.1 WAR contribution.
