New WIL Format & Teams

#1 Post by Wind Dancers »

At the end of the playoffs, the PEBA will expand for the final time as Gloucester and New Jersey return to the fold. When that happens, the WIL will be reformatting into two sub-leagues split by Asia/US with 12 total teams. This means 4 new WIL teams will be joining the league from various independent leagues (or whatever your head-canon is).

Joining the West/US sub-league (name TBD):

Tacoma Loggers
Tacoma, WA
Based in Tacoma, the Loggers become the 3rd northwest-based WIL team setting up an intense three-way rivalry with the Orcas and Chinook. 27 years after the collapse of the MLB, baseball finally returns to Puget Sound.

Boise Remuda
Boise, ID
Idaho gets its 2nd professional team alongside the single-A Nampa Moccasins. Named after the herd of horses brought on cattle drives, the Remuda bring some grit to the West

The Western/US League will comprise of:
Tacoma Loggers
Boise Remuda
Victoria Orcas
Portland Chinook
Long Beach Oilers
Sacramento Deltas

Joining the East/Asian sub-league (name TBD):

Gwangju Jade Tigers
Gwangju, South Korea
South Korea enters the WIL with the Jade Tigers of Gwangju. South Korea is a baseball juggernaut and has earned the right to represent itself in the 2nd biggest baseball league in the world.

Taipei Wardens
Taipei, Taiwan
Another big baseball nation, the stalwart people of Taiwan get a team in the capital Taipei named the Wardens. This final addition rounds out what will be a competitive Asian league.

The Eastern/Asian League will comprise of:
Gwangju Jade Tigers
Taipei Wardens
Kuwana Steel Dragons
Fushigi Yugi Celestial Warriors
Edo Battousai
Kure Arsenal

And those will be your 12 teams for the future of the WIL. It's very unlikely we expand this league again, but the goal is the have this league operate as a genuine "B" league that is still competitive and can hide a few gems that might make their way into the PEBA.
