Andy 'Numbers' Edwards

A rare occurrence within a Calzones game, a slugfest 18 runs from 26 hits also a rare occurrence San Antonio scoring more runs than they had hits to win the game.

Andy 'Numbers' Edwards may have gained the player of the game with 2 rbi, 2 runs from 2 hits and a walk to boot, however Yasunari Fujihara may have wanted a share of that award.

Brought in during the off season mainly for his qualities behind the plate, the quality of his bat was never mentioned in contract discussions simply because the Calzones knew they weren't getting a threat at the plate. However every dog as it's day.

Fujihara had his day in the 2nd were more action was witnessed in half an inning that most games don't see in 9 innings, first to the plate for the Calzones was Gilberto Fernández who faced San Juans Jorge Pagán who struck him out swinging on a 2-2 count.

Next up was Derrick Dwyer who groundout on his first pitched faced, that made it 2 up 2 down.

Pagán then lost control of the game when he not only walked Andy Edwards but also Tadasuke Suzuki, if that wasn't enough he walked Jorge Flores to load the bases without any of the Calzone played putting the ball in play.

Fujihara was on deck and still an at bat away from destiny when Juan Bonilla hit a single to score Edwards and make it 1-0 to the Calzones, it was time for Yasunari to make a name for himself, make him an hero to the fans. He didn't hang around with 2 outs and the bases loaded he swung at the first pitch and sent it deep into the outfield seats to make it 5-0 to San Antonio, Shigekazu Shimizu with a walk and Peter Monnington getting hit by a Pagán fastball meant that 5 Calzone players had got on base without so much of a dent on their bats.

Pagán was replaced in the top of the 2nd by Seong-chae Somun, San Juan did go on to score 7 runs with 2 in the bottom of the 2nd and 4 in the bottom of the 5th but the Calzones had extended their lead in the 3rd 7-2 and the 6th 10-6, the outcome was pretty much done and dusted by the time both teams scored in the 7th to make it the final score 11-7 to the Calzones.

Eli McKnight

The San Juan Coqui got a magnificent performance from pitcher Eli McKnight, who stifled the San Antonio offense en route to a 3-0 Coqui win at PRTC Stadium. The win brings the Coqui to 13-9, a promising start as the team looks to return to the playoffs.

In the bottom of the third, Oscar Wetherby hit a solo home run. The 2nd home run of the season for the San Juan third baseman put the Coqui on top, 1-0.

Wetherby said the team appreciates the support from the fans. "I'm glad we could reward them with a good win," he said after the game.
