Well Opening Day could have been better, it actually started perfect that was until the 3rd inning then it started to go downhill.

Juan Garanzuay got the opening day start, nerves seemed to have got to him in the 1st as he gave up a single to Roberto 'Dracula' Salazar but more worryingly he walked both Wally Glasser and Jorge Pagán. However he turned the tide and got out of the inning without giving up a run, if Garanzuay had a shaky start the Calzones bats had a hot start with 3 runs from 5 hits although they may have pushed the game out of the reach of San Juan if they hadn't left Jorge Flores & Yasunari Fujihara on 2nd and 3rd respectfully when Luis Antonio Aguilera groundout on a full count to end the inning.

Garanzuay gained his composure in the second only giving up a single to Dan Collins although Oscar Wetherby made him work for the out when he finally succumbed after facing 12 pitches, Fernando Castro also turned his game around facing only the mandatory 3 batters.

The game started to get away from the Calzones in the 3rd when San Juan pulled within a run making it 2-3, they then levelled the game in the 5th when Jorge Pagán scored on a Dan Collins single.

San Juan took the lead in the 7th when Bernardo Ríos crossed the plate when Dan Collins reached on an error, José 'Box Car' Gonzáles also crossed the plate for the Coqui on a Oscar Wetherby fly ball to leftfield.

The Coqui increased there lead when a fly ball to centerfield of Jorge Pagán scored Wally Glasser in the 8th to make it 6-3 to San Juan the eventual final score on Opening Day.

Andy 'Numbers' Edwards

San Antonio left fielder Edwards had a good game, even if his team did not. The Calzones of Laredo dropped a 4-3 decision to San Juan at Elysian Fields. Edwards was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. António Ávila earned the win after being called from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. He upped his record to 1-0. San Juan is off to a hot start at 2-0.

The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter Jorge Pagán came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing San Antonio pitcher Juan Alfaro, he hit a 0-2 sinker for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting San Juan on top, 4-3.

"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said San Antonio manager Kijuro Yoshida.

Miguel Torres

The San Antonio Calzones of Laredo picked up a win at Elysian Fields, taking down the San Juan Coqui, 7-1. Starting pitcher Miguel Torres was a big reason why. With the win, San Antonio elevates its record to 1-2.

The Calzones of Laredo got a big hit from first baseman Gilberto Fernández. In the bottom of the fifth, Fernández pounded a 2-run double to center. His 2nd double of the season put the Calzones of Laredo ahead, 4-1.

"Good baseball players make you a smarter manager," said San Antonio manager Kijuro Yoshida.

Enjoyed opening day in beautiful San Antonio. Yoshida nailed it on day two though. Box Car the underrated hero twice moving runners from second to third with ground outs to the left side, setting up two scores.

As the Calzones GM it was a frustrating series, going up 3-0 early in the first game, scoring more runs in the series just frustrating. However I think we finished over 20 games behind you last season so a 1-2 series defeat and one of those by just 1 run its not all doom and gloom.
