2032 Winter Meeting Recap

#1 Post by Alleghenies »

Going into this year’s Winter Meetings, GM Abcarian was hoping to make 1 major trade. At the end of the meetings unfortunately he did not make any major trades, but he did make 3 trades that look towards the future. The first trade was with SJ and it sent 1b Lee Stone to them for their 2nd round and 4th round draft picks. The team knows that they paid more for Lee Stone, but he did not have a spot and at age 25, he was risking turning into a AAAA player and the Alleghenies getting nothing in return. We expect Lee to do well for SJ and hopefully he has a wonderful career.
In the second trade of the day, Fargo came calling for long-time vet Carlos Saenz. While there was some back and forth, a deal was agreed on quickly. The Alleghenies settled on 1b Manuel Munoz in return from Fargo. Manuel has potential to become a decent hitting 1b in PEBA, but that is up to him. He has a problem with speaking when he shouldn’t, and the team is hoping he can overcome that and keep improving.
In the last trade of the day, the Alleghenies shipped SP Mario García to Arlington for LF Ryo Takahashi at the very end of the meetings. The Alleghenies had acquired Mario last year from OKI and had hoped he would be on the 40-man this year. While rumors are he had a spot on the 40 locked up, others do not believe it much as he got traded. Ryo was a late round pick that has shown some signs that he might be able to make it to PEBA. The bonus is that he will not need to be on the 40-man roster and have a couple years to mature in the minors.
While none of these trades will likely be remembered in the future, they do help keep the team young and help retool the minor league system which is one of GM Abcarian’s goals this off-season. The Alleghenies were involved in many other talks and rumor is a few more trades are likely coming in the next few days.
