Scottish Scoops 31.005 May Almanac

Scottish Claymores
2031 Almanac: May

Narrative

This, surely, was the worst of times.

During May, Scotland was the worst team in the Imperial League by far, posting a 5-23 record and a .179 winning percentage. Only Duluth, in the hated Sovereign League, was worse at 4-24, .143.

It was in May that the Claymores put the finishing touches on “The Streak,” picking up from their 0-4 record at the end of April and tacking on another 17 losses before finally beating Havana 5-1 in a May 19 road game.

No one in the Scottish organization could remember so bleak a stretch. Things got so bad that Jim Fox, the outfielder signed to a free agent contract over the winter with so much hope, fired off an email to management demanding a trade.

And while several teams came inquiring about his services, the Scottish held firm: if management was going to suffer through this, so was Fox.

“You tired of losing?” growled General Manager Vic Caleca. “Then play better.”
