Scottish Scoops 31.002: April Recap

#1 Post by Vic »

Hot Take

Look out, Yuma. We’re a-comin’ for ye!

When the so-called "brain trust" in Edinburgh decided to dismantle the Scottish Claymores and try to rebuild the franchise from the bottom up, they promised there would be some lean years at the Castle.

So far, this looks more like a famine.

The Claymores are off to a 7-13 April (and have added another 4 losses in May). Let’s do the math together, shall we? That’s a lean, (there’s that word again) mean 7-17 record, good for dead last in the Trans-Atlantic Division, dead last in the entire Imperial League, and just two losses off the 7-19 pace set by Yuma for worst in the entire PEBA.

Lean, indeed.

Scotland’s pitching is either last or close to it in most measures of any import, while the hitting is … well, not quite that bad, but still putrid. The Scottish rank 13th (out of 14) for hits, and 11th for runs.

About the only thing the team has going for it is its play in the field: Scotland ranks 3rd in the IL for defensive efficiency and 2nd for zone rating. I guess that means what balls aren’t blasted out of the park or bounced off the outfield wall for extra bases are being fielded cleanly.

Well, goody for us.

Let’s hope the Claymores at least get a few good draft choices out of this mess.

Meanwhile, make sure Yuma has left some room on the bench at the bottom of the league. Looks like we may be here awhile …
