The Bureaucrats Triplicate: Offseason Acquisitions Edition

#1 Post by Bureaucrats »

Much like the sun rising and setting, the baseball offseason comes with trades, signings, and releasings. Here is our analysis of the recent offseason acquisitions.

November 2030:

SS Manuel Salazar (Trade from WV): Salazar is a middle of the road shortstop. Painfully average on offense, he is a speedster who can steal a lot of bases and is an elite glove on the left side of the infield. However, in AA last season he put up a .256/.312/.374 with a 4.3 WAR. Given enough development time in AAA, he could make the ML roster in a year or two.

RP Quentin Fookes(Trade from WV): Fookes is a decent reliever with a good Cutter, a decent Curveball, and a developing Slider. Hitting speeds of 92 MPH, he can get the groundballs he wants. In A ball last season, he pitched 46.0 innings, putting up a 1.17 ERA, a WHIP of 0.87, an ERA+ of 268, striking out 87 while walking 35. Given a few years of development, he can progress through the minors to hopefully make the Show.

SP Damien Dalzel(Trade from WV): Not much is known about Dalzel. He has above average stuff, while adding little to no movement to add. He is a bit of a controversial figure, being somewhat slothful and slow to learn. Despite being a 2027 minor league signing by the Alleghenies, he has no previous experience except from last year, when he pitched 25 innings, having a 2.52 ERA with a WHIP 1.08 and 40 Ks. We have no expectation for him.

SS Mike Fitzpatrick (Trade from WV): This 21 year old is known to "Just want to play baseball and not be bothered". Well, we believe him. Going straight off the scouting report, "He has all the tools to be a premium defensive shortstop. He can impact the game with his wheels on the bases. He has an average power ceiling. He will likely be penciled in for a lion's share of starts at his position". In Rookie league this year, in 307 ABs, he hit .261/.323/.371, with 6 HR and 52 RBI. Currently in Short Season A, he'll likely progress through the minors, eventually.

LF Jarrod Ricks (Trade from BAK): A 12 year veteran, with above average batting ratings. He is declining is recent years, however we can see what the front office sees in him; A veteran for the young guys to look up to.

1B Haywood Riley (Trade from BAK): The current #1 prospect for the 'Crats, Riley looks to get a lot of walks, as he seems to greatly understand his strike zone. A slightly above average power hitter, he hit 14 HR with 41 RBI over 222 ABs last season. This adds to his .216/.330/.446 slash line and his 2.0 WAR. Expect to see him sometime this season.

2B Bernardo Sandoval (Trade from BAK): Sandoval projects to be a utility infielder with spotted starts in the outfield. Currently sporting an A+ mustache, he looks to be an above average 2B while being a below average hitter. We cannot say for sure when he'll make his PEBA debut, but do be on the lookout.

CF Ruud Renders (Trade from WV): While playing in Rookie ball, Renders hit .305/.385/.764 with 1 HR and 28 RBI. Renders is still young, so there's plenty of room for improvement. Given an appropriate amount of time, he can develop his eye at the plate, and as far as we know, he high on the opinions of the front office.

RP Luca Camardiel (Trade from WV): Known to be a hard worker, Luca can hit speeds of 97 MPH while utilizing his repertoire of a Fastball, Curveball, and Slider. One thing to note, while pitching in Rookie ball, he posted an ERA of 2.76, a WHIP of 0.61, and struck out 25 while walking 0. Currently in Short Season A ball, he could develop to be a key bullpen piece.

SP Carl Carnegie (Trade from WV): Having weapons such as a 95 MPH fastball, a slider, curveball, and a changeup, this variety should help Carnegie to get outs. However, we are aware of his control problems at the moment. We await his development.

December 2030:

RP Jesus Canas (Trade from WV): Canas has some control problems. This is no secret. However, was is exciting for Canas is his Fastball and Cutter, which can hit speeds of 98 and 96 MPH respectively. Having 3 fastballs and 1 offspeed, he looks to be a decent bullpen piece. Look for his promotion sometime this year.

LF Edgardon Acarcon (Minor League FA): Acarcon is an all-around hitter, with a spike of power. Having 1 singular game in the PEBA level, he has a .500/.500/.500 line. Don't be too hyped. The perennial AAA man has been stuck in AAA for the past decade. Perhaps underutilized, but maybe there was a reason. Is he a AAAA man rather than PEBA level talent? Only time will tell.

RP Yi-da Bi ( Trade From WV): Not much is known about Bi. We do know he has an average fastball, an average slider, and an average changeup. Considering he is 18 years old, he will likely develop his skills and pitches further.

RP Javier Heredia (Trade from WV): Another 18 year old pitcher, Heredia also has average stuff with a sidearm delivery. Again, we can only speculate on his future development.

RP Albert Ibanez (Trade from WV): Once again, we have another 17 year old pitcher. Once again, we can only speculate on his development. Currently, he sports an average fastball, a curveball that is projected to be average, and a below average changeup.

RP Tsumemasa Shimada (Trade from WV): In what appears to be a trend, Shimada is a 17 year old pitcher with average pitches with below average speed. Currently projecting to have average control and movement, he is a quick learner who might top out at AA.

RP Manuel Sanchez (Trade from WV): An 18 year old pitcher. Color us surprised.... He currently boasts average pitches with below average control and movement. A man who keeps to himself, he might also top out at AA.

SP Declan Littleworth (Trade from SS): Declan is a 6 year veteran who has above average stuff with average movement and above average control. Posting an ERA of 3.86 with a WHIP of 1.14. He has great stamina, and can go deep into an outing, which is something this team sorely needs. We await his production with bated breath.

NOW FOR WAIVER CLAIMS!!!

With 6/7 of our waiver claims coming from the Sonoran Desert, we can only hope that a change of pace helps, as they floundered in Yuma. With A+ names such as Dave Dundee and Cecil Baggerman, they were clearly born to be baseball players. With a median age of 26, we can expect them to be apart of the 'Crats organization for many years, for better or worse.

Overall Grade: C. With a majority of the acquisitions being fringe players who may or may not make the PEBA roster, they are mostly development pieces that add to the farm. This has been our transaction ratings, thank you for reading.
