Florida spoiled Scotland’s home opener, taking the game 5-4 behind the pitching of starter Hyung-jin Kang, who went 6.0 innings while allowing 3 hits and 1 run .... Claymores SP Carlos Pérez lasted just 5 innings and got torched for 6 hits and 4 runs en route to a loss and a dismal PQS score of 1 … Scotland’s offense looked sluggish, with the exception of 2B José Escobido and SS Naomi Honma. Escobido was 3-4 with 3 runs scored, while Honma went 2-3 with a double and a 3-run homer … Player of the Game: Hyung-jin Kang … Cliché of the Game: "We'll relax tonight and enjoy this win," said Danny Burke, Florida Catcher who hit a solo homer in the 6th inning that provided the winning margin.

Scotland came back to even its season record at 1-1 behind the veteran Francisco Robles, who went 5 innings, allowing 2 hits and 0 runs with 4 Ks and no walks. Although he didn’t get the win, he did notch a respectable PQS score of 3 … Sadakuno Nakagawa picked up the win as he threw two scoreless innings of relief, and Ken Fisher nailed down the save … RF Pat Barry keyed the offense with a 3-run homer in the 8th inning off Featherheads reliever Bill Gallagher, who took the loss … Player of the Game: Francisco Robles … Cliché of the Game: “I really like what we did out there today,” said Claymores SS Naomi Honma.

Florida SP Ty Evans throttled the Scottish offense, as Scotland’s first two pitchers of the game came up with niggling injuries that took them out of the contest and brought in veteran RP Terry Dumont, who was promptly lit up for 5 hits and 5 runs … SP Bill Gustafson lasted just 0.2 innings before his back stiffened up and he had to yield to Manuel Sánchez, who lasted 1 inning before coming down with a mild abdominal strain. Neither injury was serious, but the damage was done … Player of the Game: Ty Evans, Florida starter, who went 7.1 innings, allowing 4 hits, 0 runs and 1 walk while striking out 2. PQS score: 3 … Cliché of the Game: “I still think this team has room for improvement,” said Danny Burke, Florida catcher who went 2-3 with 4 RBIs.

The Skinny: We can’t say we’re surprised by how this series unfolded … the Claymores’ depleted rotation couldn’t handle the Featherheads’ offense, which left things up to the offense … which sputtered a bit. It may be tough sledding through April until injured starters Clark Snow and Allen Guthrie return. Carlos Pérez is going to have to perform better than he’s show so far if the Scottish are to stay close to the leaders. Yeesh.
