August 19, 2029 Neo-Tokyo, Japan The week starts off slowly with two poor outings by Jose Santos - his worst start of the year - and Julio Diaz who remains an enigma. The team bounces back by taking 3 of the next 4, including a blow out 14-1 win vs Bakersfield on Friday. Tomas Martinez knocks in 6 RBI in that game and finishes the week with 98 to lead the SL. The Akira finish with a 3-0 shutout of the Bears on Sunday due to a fine bounce back performance by Santos who tosses 7.2 shutout innings for his 14th win.

A 3-3 week leaves NT with a record of 79-46, 5.5 games up on second place Shin Seiki. Up ahead: The final game at the Bears (73-51) and home series vs Yuma (40-84) and Reno (54-71).

Jeff Grier now leads the SL with a .333 BA. Julio Gonzalez is tied for the ML lead with 34 saves.

August 26, 2029 Neo-Tokyo, Japan The Akira open the week with a 3-1 loss to Bakersfield as they close out their 4 game series. Jose Diaz pitches well, allowing 1 ER but manages only 4.1 IP as the team has him on a short pitch count. Nonetheless, the offense is stifled by Fred Womack who gives up only 5 hits for his 9th victory.

Yuma comes to the Grounds and the Akira sweep the Bulldozers in the 3 game series. Game 2 saw Luigi Bright pick up his 14th win of the season after tossing 6.1 scoreless innings. He is 4th in the SL in wins (1 behind a 2 way tie for 2nd) and 3rd in ERA (2.41). Yuma SP Vinnie de Brauwer was handed his 18th loss vs no victories in game 3 as NeTo pounds the 'dozers 9-5. Guillermo Justavo has 5 RBIs on 3 for 5 hitting with 2 HR.

Reno comes to town and the Akira win their 4th in a row 7-2 behind Jose Santos' first complete game of the year, picking up his 15th victory. He is 5th in the SL in ERA (2.52), 2nd in wins, first in IP (178.2) and 5th in WAR (4.5) . Santos and Bright give the team a solid 1-2 punch for a possible playoff run. The Zephyers take the final two games of the series including a tough 1-0 loss on Sunday despite SP Javier Ferreira's magnificent effort.

Tomas Martinez leads the PEBA in RBI with 105. Jeff Grier leads the SL in BA at .336 and has 74 SB.

Neo-Tokyo finishes with a 4-3 week, 83-49 on the season. Shin Seiki edges closer with a 5-1 week and are 4 GB, 3 GB in the loss column. Upcoming games: Three at home vs Bakersfield (77-54) and at Yuma (41-89).

September 2, 2029 Neo-Tokyo, Japan The week begins at home vs the Bears. Luigi Bright and Jose Santos pick up wins that sandwich Jose Fernandez' worst outing of the season as they fall 13-5.

Off to Yuma to face the Bulldozers. Santiago Garcia tosses another gem and this time picks up the win as the Yumans edge NT 3-2 on Friday. The Akira take the final two games in convincing fashion 10-0 and 8-1 to finish out the week at 4-2. Bulldozer SP Vinnie de Bouwer made history on Sunday by losing his 20th consecutive decision with no wins. Three of those losses have come at the hands of Neo-Tokyo.

Luigi Bright picked up his second win of the week on Sunday and now stands at 16 wins on the season, tied for second with Santos behind SS's Yakamochi Suitani (17 wins). Tomas Martinez drove in 7 RBI for the week to up his PEBA leading total to 112.

OF Ramiro Reynoso has been an unsung hero in the lineup. He's currently batting .308 with 20 HR and 57 RBI to go along with 17 SB, all career highs.

The Akira finish 18-10 in August and sit at 87-51 for the year, with a 5 game lead over Shin Seiki entering the final month of the regular season. They have 24 games remaining. This week: 2 at Reno (58-80, having lost their last 6) and 4 at Palm Springs (78-60, 3 game win streak) that extends through Monday.

September 9, 2029 Neo-Tokyo, Japan NT Heads to Reno for a two game set with a rare Tuesday off day in between. The Zephyrs are on a 6 game losing streak and the slide continues as the Akira take both games. Not without drama though as Reno takes the visitors to extra innings on Monday in a back and forth game that features comebacks on both sides. Ultimately, it was Jeff Grier who drew the go-ahead RBI walk in the 10th that clinched it.

Game 2 was not even close as the Akira romp 9-1 behind Santos' 17th win of the season. Grier goes 4 for 4 while Martinez, Reynoso and Yanez each have 3 hit games.

Neo-Tokyo heads to Elderberry Field to face the Codgers in a 4 game set that extends to Monday. Palm Springs is desperately trying to make the playoffs so the Akira are expecting a battle. Despite scoring 9 runs on Friday the Akira fall to the Codgers 10-9 due to another poor start by Julio Diaz. He gives up 7 runs in 1.1 IP. Despite trailing 8-0 after three innings NeTo fights back to tie the game at 8 only to lose on an error by back up 2B Fernando de la Garza in the bottom of the eighth.

The Akira are trounced 8-2 in game 2 as PS's Edgardo Diaz picks up his 16th win. They return the favor by taking game three on Sunday 9-1 as Luigi Bright picks up win number 17. He and Santos are now in a 3 way lead in wins with SS's Yakamochi Suitani. Ramiro Reynoso continues his torrid pace with 2 HRs, bumping his BA to .313. The offense is clicking as Neo-Tokyo has scored 8 or more runs in 6 of their last 7 games

The week ends with a 3-2 record, 90-53 on the year. Thanks to a 5-1 week, Shin Seiki edges closer and are 3.5 GB of first. The Evas are not going to give up their division crown without a fight. A 3 game home series vs SS looms in 8 days and it could very well determine the outcome of the divisional race. Until then the Akira face Palm Springs (83-61) for 4 games on Monday and the weekend and face Canton (53-89) for 3 at home.

The race between the Akira and Evas has been a lot of fun to watch so far and promises to continue down the stretch. Very cool how the schedule for the end of Sept is all divisonal matchups including a 3 game NT/SS macthup at the Grounds. It's going to be a wild ride!

The Akira made their statement last year - so there is no surprise as to their excellent run this season! But don't count out those Evil Evas...

Get Yer PoM PoMs Out! News came down from the Commissioners office that not one but two Neo-Tokyo players were awarded the Player of the Month for August:

Luigi Bright was honored as Pitcher of the Month due to winning all five of his starts in August with a 2.34 ERA. With two wins already in September Luigi has won 10 consecutive decisions and 15 out of 16. With his 17 wins so far this season he has already surpassed his career high of 16 with Arlington and is currently tied for the ML lead in wins despite having started the year in the bullpen. Bright was signed as a free agent in 2027 after never having a losing season with Arlington. His first two seasons with Neo-Tokyo spoiled that record as he had 9-12 and 9-10 records with ERAs over 4.00. That was somewhat of a disappointment to management but this year has exceeded expectations. This is his first PoM of his career. He was also an All Leather Glove Award winner in 2024. At 6' 7" and 260 lbs the Australian native is one of the tallest pitchers in baseball. Bright has a career 116-76 record.

Tomas Martinez was honored as the Sovereign League Batter of the Month. His line for August: .410 BA/ 9 HR/ 37 RBI in 26 games/ 1.239 OPS/ 7 for 7 in SB. He currently leads the ML in RBI with 118 and is second in the SL in BA (.323), trailing only teammate Jeff Grier. The 25 year old right fielder is in only his second full season in the PEBA. This is his first BoM award but has won the Player of the Week four times, Rookie of the Month one time and was selected to the 2028 All Star game. Martinez was selected by NeTo with the 16th overall pick in the 2022 player draft.

September 16, 2029 Neo-Tokyo, Japan And just like that it's down to zero. Well, a half game but only because the Evas have played one less game. What seemed a somewhat comfortable six game lead has been whittled down to nothing. Not necessarily because of an Akira collapse but instead an awakening of the beast that is Shin Seiki, whose pride will not let them give up or give in without an epic battle, as if the PEBA cosmos is realigning the standings to restore sense and order to things.

Neo-Tokyo has meandered through their last 10 games, at 5-5, which isn't awful but certainly not grabbing the brass ring. Playing the first place Codgers seven of the last ten will do that, and taking only three of those contests. Rather it is Shin Seiki seemingly arousing from a slumber, looking around and realizing it's time to start playing for real. As a result they have won 12 straight to pull within a whisper of first place in the Rising Sun Division. Facing Reno and Yuma at home will do that for you but to be fair five of those wins have come against formidable foes Fargo and Bakersfield.

And right on cue comes a three game head-to-head series that will most likely decide the outcome of the division title. Home field belongs to Neo-Tokyo who are 47-28 at The Grounds, although the Evas are 42-32 on the road. Shin Seiki holds the season series winning six of the previous ten games and they are dead even playing in Tokyo, 2 games apiece. Neo-Tokyo's inability or lack of desire to swing a trade deadline deal for a frontline starter could cost them in this series. Game one will see the ball handed to Julio Diaz of all people, who picked up his first win of the season in just his last start and has a 6.57 ERA. Not Vinnie de Brouwer awful but not exactly inspiring confidence either. But unless they hand the reigns to an unproven call up they are left with no other choice. No doubt he will be on a short leash but could redeem himself for a disappointing season with a quality start tomorrow.

Following this series Neo-Tokyo will have 9 games remaining: 4 at Okinawa (81-68), 2 at Toyoma (61-89) and 3 at home vs Okinawa. Shin Seiki will have 10 games remaining: 4 at Toyoma and 3 each at home vs Okinawa and Toyoma. The remaining schedule certainly favors the Evas, adding a little more weight to the outcome of this series. In all likelihood, both teams will make the playoffs but the Rising Sun banner and home field advantage is on the line.
