Fargo Dinosaurs News and Notes - Preseason

#1 Post by Dinosaurs »

  • Notable cuts from the major league 25 man roster now that we reach the end of spring training include SP Manuel Hernandez, SP Marvin Lilly, RP Andrew Kiley, RP Jose Rodriguez, and 3B Tom Dougherty.
  • Hernandez's demotion caught the greater headline as he was in a battle with Bernardo Moreno for the 5th starter spot in the rotation following the addition of Markus Hancock to the top of the rotation. Hernandez had a good year last season coming in as a league average starting pitcher in his rookie season with an 101 ERA+, making 32 starts. Moreno edged him out in spring, though it was a close call between the two. Hernandez will serve as an above average depth option at this point.
  • The PEBA Top 100 Prospects List Published and a Fargo Dinosaur prospect is #1. The currently injured (expected to be out a month) CF Pat Watson (AAA) came in as the top prospect in all of PEBA, which has many Fargo fans excited about the promise of seeing Watson later this season. According to one league scout, the kid is basically ready to make the jump to the bigs, he may just need to work on cutting down strikeouts, but the power and hit tool are there, as well as outstanding defense in centerfield. SP Ryan Humphreys (AAA) is the #6 prospect on the list giving the Dinosaurs two players in the top ten, which along with Havana Leones, are the only organizations to boast such a feat.
