Warriors Rising: a Webflix Original Documentary(screenplay)

#1 Post by DrewV »

Trailer 1

black screen, sounds of birds chirping, children yelling, and a metal bat making contact with a ball.

White Marquee Text: WEBFLIX ORIGINALS PRESENTS

lone horn melody plays, somberly, over the sound of children playing baseball, as an unseen narrator begins to speak.

Narrator: Somewhere, in the heart of most men,

scene fades open to a little league game, early in the morning, along the banks of the St. Louis River. Doyle Bluth Stadium looms in the background.

Narrator: There is a young ball player on the verge of greatness.

fade to black

White Marquee Text: A Midwestern Cinema Production

Audio shifts to a radio feed, a roaring crowd cheering in the background, as a play-by-play announcer speaks.

Mike Madigan: Coming to the plate now, in his first major league appearance, is nineteen-year-old Pat Holman, the switch-hitting workhorse from Vermont.

(2007 video footage of a young, square-chinned Holman settling into his stance, eventually fading to black)

scene shifts to an interview; text shows "JAMES CORHART, SPORTS WRITER"

Corhart: When people ask, "who are the Duluth Warriors," I tell them Duluth Warriors are like a geode. On the outside--the side the world sees--Boring and common in every way--like the midwest. But inside, is a legacy, and a story, more beautiful and wonderful than any other professional club.

Fade to black, music continues to build.

Narrator: It's a story of triumph.

Video footage of 2026 Rodriguez Cup footage fades in, Mike Madigan's voice reporting.

Bullfrog Hernandez, with two down, checks first, the wind up....AND HE'S DONE IT! GAME SEVEN IS IN THE BOOKS! THE DUGOUT CLEARS LIKE A FLOOD ON THE SOUTH BANKS OF THE ST. LOUIS! THE WARRIORS ARE PEBA CHAMPIONS!

slow-motion cut of the team celebrating, eventually fading to black.

It's a story of defeat.

Scene of "PEBA Tonight" fades in.

Reporter: Hopes for a Duluth dynasty fade as the Warriors are eliminated this week from contention...

transition to a BNN feed

Reporter: Tension in the Duluth dugout as the Warriors drop below .400 this year...

footage of Brian Beddel being charged at the mound; a transition to Joe Kenny slamming his helmet against the dugout wall after a strikeout loss.

Transition to a shot of Mark Kierstead with Jason Bong at Warrior Hall, giving a speech during a busy press conference.

Mark Kierstead: "...sometimes in life we come to a fork in the road. We need to choose if we stay on the path we are on or stray from it.”

Music ends, fade to black

It's a story of Warriors.

White Marquee: "WARRIORS RISING: A Duluth Story."

"Coming Fall 2028".

Trailer 2

black screen, gulls calling, low report of a distant fog horn and waves lapping up on a shore.

White Marquee Text: WEBFLIX ORIGINALS PRESENTS

Voice, elderly, unseen: Duluth's always been a baseball town.

White Marquee Text: A Midwestern Cinema Production

(scene fades in to a sunset-landscape shot of a very elderly Arne Bong, on a long industrial pier, leaning on a cane, Dolyle Bluth Stadium in the distance along the St. Louis River).

(Theme music begins, Arne Bong watching the sunset as his narrative continues).

(fades to old photographs as the music builds)- Photo 1 / Photo2 / Photo 3 / Photo 4

Arne Bong (Narrative) I used to tell folks, 'it's in the water.' (laughs to himself).

(Scene transitions to a 2007 video of Arne Bong shaking John Rodriguez's had, holding up a newly-minted Duluth jersey at a crowded press conference. Inaugural GM Joel Dobney stands at his side, clapping and smiling).

Arne Bong (Narrative) You sit behind home plate, in those gawd-awful green plastic seats, and you hear the crack of the bat--the whistle of the heater coming in hot--that and the horn of an inland freighter is what makes up Duluth."

(Music cuts out as the scene fades, and transitions to a new song with the scene still black).

Arne Bong : We've got vision, for a lake town. Memories and vision--that's what we are.

(As the music builds, a video montage of stock game footage between 2007-2028 begins to play, all shot from behind home plate at Doyle Bluth Stadium--Duluth batters hitting home runs in quick transitional order).

White Marquee Text (underneath the batters): This Fall,

(shot transitions to footage of little league players, ages 8-10, a preteen Pat Holman chasing after balls and throwing around the horn)

White Marquee Text: Come home.

(white marquee reviews transition over the footage)

(music and scene fades back to Arne Bong's narrative).

(Arne Bong is in his study, perhaps in his late eighties, rubbing his chin and looking across the shot from his chair, unfocused awards and accolades on the wall behind him).

"There's nothing like Warriors baseball. Plain, ugly, beautiful, real, Duluth Warrior baseball. That's Duluth. That's home."

White Marquee Text: Warriors Rising: Coming Soon.

Love the new theme song - though I'm not familiar with the group - Trampled by Turtles sounds like a slow, agonizing death...
