Hero of The Heath: Hall of Fame Bio for Kikugoro Memoto

#1 Post by Vic »

Hero of the Heath
Class of 2028
Kikugoro Memoto, #42, Fushigi Yugi, 2007-2010, 2017
Kikugoro Memoto was a historic figure, not just for the Scottish Claymores franchise but for the League of the Rising Sun and the Planetary Extreme Baseball Alliance.

The legendary power-hitting first baseman put up back-to-back 50-home-run seasons in 2007 and 2008, followed by seasons where he hit 31 and 38 homers to establish himself as an offensive force in the young LRS.

In 2010, he was in the running to win an elusive batting Triple Crown, finishing first in HR’s (38), RBIs (119), and third in batting average (.310) in the Bright Blade Group. Former teammate Sakutaro Otsuka, who left the Celestial Warriors at the end of the 2009 season to join Edo, won the batting crown with a .340 average.

Still, Memoto won the Saiyu-shu-senshu (MVP) award for 2010 – setting the stage for what came next: he became one of the very first LRS players to leave the league for PEBA.

Memoto signed with the Manchester Maulers, where he played three strong seasons, although his stats began to suffer a steady decline. Following the 2013 season, Memoto bounced between LRS and PEBA teams before finally coming home to the Celestial Warriors.

He played one disappointing season – 2017 – for Fushigi Yugi, and was released. By the end of 2019, he decided to call it quits.

Memoto owns several Claymores’ single-season records:
WAR (2010) – 7.6
Slugging Pct. (2007) - .663
OPS – (2007) – 1.060
Runs (2008) – 108
Total Bases (2008) – 364
Home Runs (2007, 2008) – 50
RBIs (2008) – 156
He also owns the franchise career records for:
Slugging Pct. - .611
OPS - .998
Memoto frequently appears elsewhere in the single-season and career Top 10 leader boards, as well.

Although his service time with the franchise was a comparatively brief 5 years, the fact that he still is all over the Claymores record books speaks to the singular nature of his baseball genius.

He was a shoo-in for the first class of the Scottish Heroes of the Heath Hall of Fame.
