Hero of The Heath: Hall of Fame Bio for Salvador Medrano

#1 Post by Vic »

Hero of the Heath
Class of 2028
Salvador Medrano, #53, Fushigi Yugi, 2008-2018
Salvador “The Gambler” Medrano is a legendary figure in the history of the Scottish Claymores franchise, dating back to the team’s earliest days as the Fushigi Yugi Celestial Warriors, a charter member of the League of the Rising Sun.

Medrano, who played most of his career as a catcher, joined the organization in 2007 as a raw 21-year-old for the team’s AAA affiliate in Nichibitsu. He went to the league’s All-Star team and then won the AAA Outstanding Hitter Award at the end of the year.

He joined the big league club the next year, winning Bright Blade Group “Rookie of the Month” awards for June, July, August and September and then won the league’s Shinjinshou, or Rookie of the Year, award for 2008.

Medrano appeared in six LRS All-Star games, and was a key member of both of the franchise’s Neo Tokyo Cup championship teams in 2010 and 2018.

He is the team’s all-time career leader in:
War – 50.8
Games – 1,380
At-Bats – 4,862
Runs – 795
Hits – 1,345
Total Bases – 2,234
Singles – 915
Home Runs -221
RBIs – 801
Walks – 867
Medrano also appears in the club’s Top 10 leader boards for a number of other offensive categories.

His career slash line for Fushigi Yugi was: .277/.388/.459, and his best overall season was in 2012, when he slashed .304/.399/.505 with 7.0 WAR, with 23 homers and 78 RBIs.

Medrano’s skills dropped notably after the 2018 season and Fushigi Yugi gave him his release. He latched on with a few minor league teams after that, and finally retired from the game in 2024.

He currently is the host of a popular baseball radio talk show, PEBA UK! on the talkSPORT network in the United Kingdom.

I've got a plaque for him in the Hall which links to this ... putting it in the file makes it incredibly long, so makes more sense to break these out. Wish I could pin this to the bottom of the forum so it wasn't bumping up against the Hall posting ...

The Fushigi Yugi had some formidable teams, I'm learning. They must have been fun to run!
