San Juan Promotes Manetti

#1 Post by MikeB »

Gilbert Retires, San Juan Puts Manetti at Helm

With Jesus Gilbert calling it a career, San Juan has promoted bench coach Sergio Manetti to manager.

Despite the ultimate disappointment of not making the playoffs, Gilbert drew accolades from Coqui fans with his fiery demeanor and for having the Coqui leaping around the basepaths. San Juan improved by 12 wins in his lone season as manager, stole 28 more bases and the hitting was better across the roster. Previously he led the organization's AAA affiliate to three straight division titles.

Manetti managed London for a decade and a half from 2007-21, including five playoff appearances from 2016-21 and collected a championship ring in 2018.

The Coqui released a statement saying, "We are very sorry to see Jesus go. He was well liked in Coqui country and has done a fantastic job for the organization in his years with us. However, we are fortunate to have an experienced manager in Sergio Manetti in-house already to replace him."

To replace Manetti as bench coach, San Juan has also hired Alfred Montoya, who had previously been a AAA pitching coach for the organization. Montoya has also been discussed as a possible manager someday.

Thank you Mike. There have been some interesting staff shakeups around the league so far this offseason.
