Welcome to the first ever Underground Week In Review, where we quickly review the week that was for the Underground and their minor league affiliates.
July 10-17, 2028
Personnel Notes
The Underground fired two staff personnel from their AA affiliate, pitching coach Jose Gomez and hitting coach Sen Inoue. 39 year old Bryan Cruz was hired as the new hitting coach, while 44 year old Jim Shirley was hired as pitching coach.
The Underground also fired their A affiliate pitching coach Dough Harrel and hired 39 year old Misao Kodo in replacement.
Contract Notes
The Underground signed two British high school prospects to their International Complex, 16 year old Ethan Dodgson and 16 year old Ellis Thackwray.
The Underground signed catcher Tatsukichi Araki to a minor league contract, assigned to S A affiliate.
Milestone Watch
Marcos Gonzalez - Currently 3 saves away from 200 career
Clark Snow - Currently 1 strikeout away from 1000 career
PEBA Notes
The Underground went 4-1 on the week, including a three-game sweep of the reeling Amsterdam Lions. The team improved to an even 46-46 on the season. The Underground made up 4 games in the wild vard race, and now sit just a game back of a potential wildcard berth.
Martin Ramirez stayed hot, recording his second consecutive shutout start. In those starts Ramirez has pitched 13 innings allowing 8 hits, no runs, and striking out 19.
Catcher Miguel Angel-Galvez stroked a grand slam for his 10th HR of the year. In total for the week he had 6 hits and 5 RBI.
AAA notes
Leeds went 3-0 on the week, scoring no less than 5 runs in each of their wins. The Rhinos are second in the Europe and Islands division and 1 game back of the wild card.
24 year old Colin Boucher made his AAA debut after being called up on July 10. He played in one game, collecting 1 hit in 3 at bats and scoring two runs.
AA notes
The Beatles went 2-4 on the week, continuing their disappointing season which sees them sitting at just a .419 win percentage.
Several players called up this week made their AA ball debuts:
Antonio Mesegue, played in 4 games. He had 3 hits, all doubles, and 1 RBI for a .214 AVG.
Arturo Rodriguez, played in 5 games. He had 5 hits, 1HR, 4 RBI for a .238 AVG
Rene Lems, played in 4 games. He had 1 hit and struck out 6 times for a .071 AVG.
A notes
The Bears had a disappointing 2-4 week, but remain in first place in the Intercontinental Division with a 52-24 record.
No players made their single A debuts this week, though recently demoted Ernie McKee played his first two games for Birmingham this season, filling in as closer. He gave up runs in both appearances, good for a 13.50 ERA in 2.0 IP and earned a loss in one decision. Not great, Ernie. Not great.
S-A Notes
Wasila had a nightmarish week, going 1-5. The team was shut out twice and gave up 8+ runs three times.
Tatsukichi Araki made his organizational debut following signing a minor league contract. In one game he was held hitless, but collected an RBI
Felix Rangel made his first professional appearance following a call-up from the international complex. In 6 games he batted .250 with 3 RBI and a double.
We probably missed some stuff, but that is a pretty good look at the Underground week that was!
