Sherwin's early season slog

#1 Post by Leones »

Jonathan Sherwin is not a media darling. The native son of Derby, England, grew up along the shores of the river Derwent where he spent his summers watching the otters play along the banks by the mill. He’s quiet and unassuming off the mound.

On the mound he’s one of the fiercest competitors on the Camaguey roster. With his pinpoint control and excellent breaking ball he put together a 17-7 win loss record last season. This year he’s picking up right where he left off with a 3-1 record in the dawn of the of 2024 campaign.

When travel and personnel issues left the club shorthanded in the first week of the season, Sherwin was pressed into a short rotation and quickly posted his three wins on short rest. He pitched and won on Monday (Apr 1), Thursday (Apr 4) and Saturday (Apr 6). He was called back into action on Sunday (Apr 7) and did not figure in the decision. Completely spent, he was called upon to start again on Wednesday Apr 10 and got his first loss of 2024. In that short and hectic period he pitched 25.2 innings and maintained a 1.05 ERA with 17 Ks.

The rotation has been reset and after some much deserved rest he’ll be going forward with help from top prospects Glenn Thomas and Enrique Vázquez. No wonder the fans love this guy!

That's an impressive start considering the brevity of his rest between appearances. Also I would be curious how many other PEBA starters grew up scouting the best otter watching spots while in their youth.
