A number for concern

#1 Post by Leones »

The club had a good run this week going 8-2 in the last 10 to stay abreast of the competition atop the division. But when you dig deeper into the numbers there is one number that glares out like a mugger in the alleyway, -15

The Leones are -15 in run differential.

Look at the run differentials of the other division leaders in the league and you will see run differential numbers like +46 +113 +69 +143 +21. Being atop the 'division nobody wants to win' isn't going to mean squat when the leaves start to turn in the fall. If this club intends to be playing when the frost arrives this has got to get corrected.

One glaring problem has been our defense (again) where we've got a -10.1 ZR. That's one of the reasons we were happy to grab 2B Max Lee from the waiver wire. Max has posted a +3.3 ZR so far which is a step in the right direction.

The bats have been generally solid. Pitching looks to be an issue. We've got some very strong youngsters in AAA who may give the club a shot in the arm as September call ups. They'll need plenty of starts to get prepped for the move up.

Until then we've got to simply hang on an keep ahead of those pesky division rivals.
