The King and his Crown

It took just over a year, but Morimoto-gate has now resurfaced, this time involving the team's new GM.

Tension between the strikeout-prone home run slugger and the team's former GM Paul Tanner has been well documented, and assures that he won't be in the Ghosts lineup anytime soon, but reports have now surfaced that current New Orleans management is growing equally impatient with Morimoto's 2022 season production, and changes could be on the way that would bump Morimoto to a lesser role in the lineup, and his future with the Trendsetters could be in doubt.

At the half-way point in the season, Morimoto (PEBA's all-time HR leader) is batting just .214 with 15 home runs and 39 RBI, which is well below the production of past years, and the lowest batting average of all regular players on the team's lineup, despite his contract eating up the largest amount of salary.

Veteran Trendsetters reporter Scott Plack has mentioned via Twitter: "@SPlack, Latest rumor: @JamesHeard to play 1B for 'Setters now, @TsuMo11 DH short-term, reduced role, and maybe drop in order for slugger to come, maybe more. #SomewhatExpected"

This tweet was re-tweeted over 1,000 times over the past few hours by Plack's considerable list of followers.

GM Reg LeBlanc, not exactly known for his flamboyant Twitter retorts, was asked about the latest rumors, but would only say that changes in the "composition of the lineup" over the next few weeks might change, but would not specify.

Many people around the team, however, are speculating that Morimoto's days could be numbered. After a rumored volatile closed-door meeting yesterday between the first baseman and the GM (Morimoto went 2-for-29 last week), the team is now rumored to focus their attention on James Heard at first base, and as the team's primary generator of offense going forward, unless the King can show that he can still produce.

Morimoto was noticeably absent for most the team's pre-game practice as they prepare to host the Arlington Bureaucrats tonight. He eventually did arrive mid-session, but uncharacteristically refused to talk to the media. It seems like the rumors might not be unfounded.
