2024 week 2 in review

#1 Post by Duane »

A strong 6 and 1 week sets Ky's record now to 11-3, still atop the division.

All seven games were played at home this week, against playoff foes Arlington and London. The team won three extra-inning games and four one-run games. There was a minor roster move sending 2b Stewart Abbott to AAA and activating LF Pablo Rodríguez (aquired from Florida in the Ping deal) giving us 2 players identified by P. Rodriguez playing outfield, so be careful checking those box scores.

Pitcher of the week:
Although last weeks winner had another good showing with 7 strong 1 run allowed, we are going with rookie SP Roberto Camacho. Camacho is out of the gate now after his 2 pitch opening performance. He started 2 games for a combined 15 innings, allowing just 1 run and tallying 15 Ks. The 8 innings against London could easily have been a complete game had it not been for the one-hour rain delay after the 8th.

Hitter of the week:
Hands down RF Colin Crow wins this weeks honors. Colin had 22 AB, 8 H, 2 HR, 4 RBI, .364 AVG, 1.098 OPS including 2 game winning hits in extra innings. We didn't hear much about Colin last year as he was often hurt and played a backup role to Jesus Lopez who now mans CF. Colin is the 2020 Wunderkind award winner, and looks to give us a solid season in 2024.

Injury update:
No new injuries to report, however, Artie Major on rehab assignment in AAA had 1 hit in 18 AB along with 4 walks. Not a good start for Artie, who is hoping to control a backup role.

On the farm:
Now that AAA and AA are underway, here is how they stand

AAA Jefferson County Independence is 5 and 6, and in 4th place of the GBB Central division trailing by 3.5 games. The outfield bats are very cold thus far with Graham and Hamilton supplying the RBI threat. Pitching is the strength so far with Old timer Dean FATE O'Monahan (39yo) being the only one who has given up any runs (not looking good for his future in baseball).

AA Bowling Green Rebels is 10 and 3 leading the Northern League East division by .5 game. The team looks well balanced as they rank in top-five in every offensive and pitching category. The future in Kentucky looks bright with this group coming fast. Expect a few of these guys to get promotions to AAA in the coming weeks.
