2024 week 3 in review

#1 Post by Duane »

A measly 1 and 2 week sets Ky's record now to 12-5, tops in the division.

All three games were played at Hartford along with a 4-day break. The team lost two extra-inning games, and all three were 1-run affairs. So far it appears that CL Aranda is having a difficult time shaking off the winter rust, blowing his 3rd save already (2 for losses). The pen still looks deep so if Aranda continues to struggle there are other options for Ky.

Pitcher of the week:
We are not going to nominate a picher of the week for only 3-games, however, it appears as though Bill Gallagher has finally warmed up. In his 2 innings of relief he allowed 0 hits and 0 runs, back to mid season form.

Hitter of the week:
This time we give the nod to rookie 1B Ira Murdoch. In the three games, Ira managed 7 hits in 13 AB, 1 HR, and 4 RBI for a .538 AVG and 1.308 OPS. Ira is a hopeful for Wunderkind

Injury update:
SP José Hernández is down with flu like symptoms and will miss his scheduled start. With the off days this should have zero impact on the staff. Outfielder Artie Major continues his rehab in AAA where the struggles are getting worrisome - he now has 8 hits in 40 at-bats, but has also 10 walks to only 4 strike outs. Maybe another week or so until he is ready for the big league?

Down on the farm:

AAA Jefferson County Independence went 4 and 2 for a 9 and 8 record, and in 4th place of the GBB Central division trailing by 2.5 games. The outfield is still cold, but the pitching and the infield bats showed up this week to support this ship. @b Stewart Abbott has been impressive in his 10 games thus far, as is teammate SS Hideaki Sakei as he works his way back to Kentucky.

AA Bowling Green Rebels went 5 and 1 to run their record to 15 and 4, leading the Northern League East division by 1.5 games. The starting staff (lead by Elliot, Howe, and Russell) is dominating the opposition so far sporting a team 2.42 era.

A Fort Wayne Pioneers began their season with a 6 and 1 showing out of the gate, leading the NAFTA Stars and Stripes division by 2 games. Another well balanced team that ranks in the top five in most pitching and offensive categories. CF Francisco Rodríguez looks to be making a statement as he is off to a torrid pace .429 with 2 homers and 7 RBI thus far.
