Demers is a definite gamble. I don't know if he'll be anything more than a $15 million flush of the toilet, but we've got lots of room next year to absorb the salary, and we're hoping our next CF will be in house by then and ready to step up if Demers doesn't pan out.

Agreed, Demers is quite the enigma. Based on our scouts, Florida felt Demers's salary was justified at the time of the contract offer. Thus far, he has yet to live up to his potential. We had the budget to keep Demers. He provided the team with excellent range in center field. But with Cruz's outfield versatility and several outfield prospects knocking on the door, it made it worth exploring a Demers trade. Hopefully, he lives up to his potential in Crystal Lake.
