Re: 2024 Predictions!

#2 Post by Borealis »

EDIT: This is what I get for not reading closely - we are going with only 1 WC... !+)

Well, I'll get this party started!!

Imperial League

Seaboard
1. Arlington
2. Hartford
3. Canton
4. West Virginia

Not sure the Har-clones have upped the pitching enough... Arlington had the yard sale at the Trade Deadline last season and still were uber-competitive... Canton is a wild card here - freed from the SL, will they have an easier time of it... Alleghenies are left at the train station by default here...

Dixie
1. Florida
2. Kentucky
3. San Antonio
4. New Orleans

I think you could flip=flop the top three here - only the Trendsetters seem not deep enough to challenge for a post-season spot... This could be the year the T-breds break through... This is the year for San Antonio's young guys to put up or cross the border...

Trans Atlantic
1. Amsterdam
2. San Juan
3. Havana
4. London
5. Claymores

I think this is the toughest to call - and I honestly think I have the top two backwards... Havana is building off an outstanding year - can they keep it going in 2024... The Dayt-mores showed promise last year, so don't be shocked if they move up the food chain...

IL Awards Winners
Royal Raker Winner: ???
Golden Arm Winner: ???
Wunderkind Winner: ???

Sovereign League

Great Lakes
1. Crystal Lake
2. Fargo
3. Duluth
4. Kalamazoo

Not sure the moves the 'Gnats have made make them stronger, but I think they still have enough talent to be atop the division... 'Fireworks' may have enough bullets left to drive Fargo to the top... Duluth/Fargo was a coin toss as each had impressive improvements last year... Badgers have the unfortunate luck of having the toughest road to success in 2024...

Desert Hills
1. Aurora
2. Palm Springa
3. Bakersfield
4. Reno
5. Yuma

I initially had the Bears 4th, with all the talent lost, but they always seem to have good youngsters fill-in... I think the Codgers finally move up the Hill, as they've been very strong the past two seasons... Christian Webb alone - Mike Britt light for the Zephyrs - though I think his numbers will be anything but light, will lead the Zephyrs to a much improved season... Yuma 5th, but a hard 5th as I think this division's 4/5 teams will win far more games than the others...

Rising Sun
1. Shin Seiki
2. Toyama
3. Okinawa
4. New-Tokyo

Okinawa, I believe will be the most improved team in the league, but can the catch the strong Wind-hangers... Will the division continue to close the gap on Shin Psy-key...

SL Awards Winners
Royal Raker Winner: Christian Webb - Reno
Golden Arm Winner: 'Tugboat' - Aurora
Wunderkind Winner: ???

Postseason

I believe we are sticking with the 3 WC format...

IL Wild Card Winners - Top 2 seeds get a bye (FLA, ARL)
Kentucky over San Antonio in 4 games
San Juan over Amsterdam in 4 games

San Juan over KTY in 4 games

SL Wild Card Winners - Top 2 seeds get a bye (AUR, SS)
Toyama over Palm Springs in 5 games
Okinawa over Crystal Lake in 4 games

Toyama over Palm Springs in 5 games

IL Division Series Winners - Top 2 seeds vs. Wild Card winners
San Juan over Florida in 7 games
Arlington over Kentucky in 6 games
Arlington over Amsterdam in 6 games

SL Division Series Winners - Top 2 seeds vs. Wild Card winners
Aurora over Toyama in 6 games
SS over Okinawa in 5 games
SS over Crystal Lake in 7 games

League Championship Series Winners
IL: San Juan over Arlington in 6 games
SL: Aurora over SS in 6 games

PEC Winner
Aurora over San Juan in 5 games
(the same match-up predicted last year which came a game short)

So I just noticed - we are only having a single WC series in each league... Right? So fixed up my picks...

Two WC per league, so the Wild Card series is a 'play-in' series.

Thank you, Michael. But you'll notice that I've predicted the only team worse than Aurora will be the Dozers. Think about that!

Here are the results of the 2024 prediction game (remember, lowest score wins!)

1. Patrick - Havana (3.5 points)
2. Morris - Okinawa (7)
3. Reg - New Orleans (13)
4. Cristian - Fargo (40)
5. Bob - Yuma (48) <- still probably my favorite prediction ever

The winner is : Patrick! Winning it for a second time, and breaking Mike's winning streak.
