Not so neat stuff but the new owner of San Juan's first action was to cut $20 million off the budget. Luckily I'd already knocked $38 million off the payroll :-[ :-?

Yikes!! That's a steep cut for an already low budget...

That is a massive cut indeed. I got a similar email from my owner and my heart dropped when I read "I have decide to drop your team's budget..." Luckily we only lost $607,500 this go round. It's quite strange give that we have made huge increases in fan interest and big jumps in season ticket sales and gate projections. We're obviously going to be making more money this year than last.

My owner is no Adam Smith. :geek:

I admit I have a soft spot for the World Independent League given that I GM'd two of their teams in Kuwana & Marseille so when I saw the Fishermen had released 1B John Story I considered signing him for the Coqui Story was a promising player when I had him at Marseille but wasn't quite good enough to dislodge my two 1B's in the 25-man, unfortunately his $5 million/ year he wanted wasn't what I could afford in San Juan's current climate. Glad to see that he's now caught on with Kiwana for a more reasonable price, hope he gets his big break

I was pretty pleased to see I was able to land free agent closer Hisamitzu Suzuki. He has some pretty good stats and only just turned 30. The Zephyrs will have 9 new players on the 25-man roster this season. The goal of not losing 100 games looks well within reach.

It was all down to just 190k.... !+)

We offered free agent reliever Pat Miller 8 million a year, but signed with Neo-Tokyo for 8.19 million a year :shake:

So close!

We offered 3-years with a pair of options for an average of $8.5M... He wanted four years...

I bowed out after the bidding went past $7M per year. That was too much for me to tie up in a reliever given how much I am already spending on my pen.

I am not surprised that NT and I had yet another shared target.

On the not so neat side of things, I just realized that my departed catcher, Harry Crawford had signed a free agent contract with another team. Initially I was happy because I had offered him arbitration and he turned it down (which meant he would net me a supplemental pick if he signed elsewhere), but I searched just now and saw that it was Manchester who signed him right out of PEBA! Those poachers grabbed him without having to give up any compensation.

I wonder if this will be an issue in the future, depending on the money available. It's not the first time players were nabbed by an outside league (the Nippon league grabbed a pitcher I was after back when they were around). It's just unfortunate that compensation system can be circumvented by teams outside of PEBA.
