New Okinawa GM

#1 Post by DougO »

In accordance with the prophecy, a General Manager for the Okinawa baseball club will rise up against the vile infestation of Shin Seiki. The GM, wearing nothing but a necklace adorned with the figurine of a Shisa, will wait upon the beaches of Okinawa for the Evil Evas to begin their annual assault. Upon sight of the Evas, the GM will raise the Shisa figurine above his head. A giant roar will deafen the island. Massive boulders will fall from the sky, destroying the Evas and leaving their metal corpses as raw material for a new Okinawa baseball stadium.

Well, until that heroic guy is hired, my name is Doug Olmsted, and I've been entrusted to safeguard the Shisa figurine necklace and not misplace it.

A little about myself:
  • Lifelong resident of the wild metropolis of Bismarck, North Dakota.
  • Father of two teenage boys and a spirited third grade girl.
  • Out-kicked my coverage in marriage.
  • Grew up playing Baseball Stars on Nintendo (80's kid). OOTP almost brings as much joy to me today as 10 year old me received from Baseball Stars.
  • Played baseball through junior college (so, in other words, I'm just like 50 million other guys who believe they were wrongfully overlooked by bigger schools and professional scouts).
  • Went through a career change this past year, allowing me an abundance of time and sanity (less money, but worth it a hundred-fold)
  • Atlanta Braves fan growing up due to TBS. Made the switch to the Minnesota Twins once I had kids (Note: I still freakin' hate Kent Hrbek with every once of my being for violently pulling my favorite player, Ronny Gant, off first base during the 1991 World Series).
  • Hobbies include: Making lawn games in my garage; Not stepping on foul lines as I coach my boys in travel ball; Picking up and repairing all the crap (mostly furniture) my wife finds on Facebook Marketplace as part of her refinish/repurpose hobby.
I'm looking forward to being a part of the PEBA and learning to not be awful at OOTP.

Welcome Doug!

I worked a summer in Medora before we had kids. I love ND! Good memories.

It's crazy how many people I meet from other states who mention Medora, but you're the first I've met who worked there. I'm going to assume you sang at the musical or scooped ice cream somewhere -- my two favorite things to experience in Medora.

Welcome aboard, Doug!

And thanks for the heads up on your nude-ish strategy. I'll be sure to have my tech people add the capability to utilize those distinctively Japanese pixelation blurs to our Heads Up Displays. I'd hate to traumatize anyone.

I'm sure you'll love it here.

Also, be sure to get on Slack. There's a lot of activity there with chit chat and trade talk.

Welcome Doug! Glad to have another guy who can reminisce about the braves. I'm still a braves super fan but a fallen braves fan is still welcome

Welcome, Doug. As everyone else has said, you'll definitely enjoy your stay in PEBA.

Should our teams ever meet in the post season, I would not advise the nude/beach/talisman strategy in Scotland: you'll get a bit chilly, and you might traumatize the sheep …

Enjoy the Shisa!

With Shin Seiki and Scotland opposed to a naked, middle-aged, pasty-white guy wearing only a necklace on a beach, how many seasons must I wait before making that my new logo?

Again, thanks for the warm welcome. I think I'll like it here.

Hello sir, I am also a new GM who joined two RL months before you. I look forward to our meeting in future postseasons after we put an end to the tyrants.
