The amazing Volmer van de Linde

#1 Post by Leones »

Was perusing the draft pool and came across the sorriest specatcale I'd seen in a while. Behold Volmer van de Linde

He's 29 years old.

He started playing college ball in 2019. Remained in college for all of 2 years and then went undrafted.

"... returned to school ..." the following year. School unknown as he didnt play any more college ball. Apparently played a lot of video games as his contact and power ratings proceeded to drop consistenty o'er the next seven years.

Might be worth drafting just for the story material.

I think there's more here than meets the eye. The Dutch intelligence services are full of crack spies... seriously, they're good. It's not like you've ever even heard of a Dutch spy. Or in van de Linde's case, an adult Dutch man as short as 5' 10". Something's not adding up. van de Linde's mistake, seems to be the 5 games that appear on his last 10 games log that really shouldn't be there. Someone forgot to expunge those from the books... and someone in Kuwana's probably going to lose more than his job over this.

Frank's on to something here, the guy is obviously being paid under the table by someone. But I think being Dutch may just be his cover.

Notice: his official status is "free agent," which may mean he's not working for the Dutch MIVD (Military Intelligence & Security Service) but working freelance.

Notice also: he played for a Madrid college team. Madrid? A Netherlander? Why?

Notice further: his college coach was none other than Patrick Reynolds--an American!

Why is an American coaching college ball in Spain with a Dutch national player on his team? Why else, unless van de Linde (probably not his real name) is actually an undercover agent for the CIA.

"Vanderlinde" is a traditional Dutch name for someone who lives by a lime tree.

Could it be that this covert agent is on the verge of cracking a citrus smuggling ring?

With how fast tech are advancing nowadays and how tech-savvy some criminals can be, I think hiding drugs inside citrus and smuggling them is a possibility by year 2029. The citrus smell could fool the dogs.

Someone who lives near a lime tree, huh? Limes are a key ingredient in mojitos, and mojitos are pretty much the national drink of Cuba ... Careful Patrick, Dutch intelligence may be trying to make inroads with the Leones!

Once again, all signs point to the CIA, who’ve always had more interest in Cuba than the Dutch. I think we’re all being played, gentlemen.

If any of us sign him and force him to play so he can't do whatever undercover works he needs to do, he has to eventually confess, right?

Confess? A spy confess? They only seem to do that after they retire and can make some money selling their book of lies. Besides, why would he? He'd just go deeper undercover.

So the plan is to hire him, force him to play and if he really retires(to go deeper undercover), we strap him into the comfy chair? Okay, I am in. I can help pay for the comfy chair I guess, but have a non-American team do the work so our teams won't get screwed by potentially screwing with a CIA agent.
