Draft Pick Compensation?
Hey guys, normally I'd read through everything first, but I'm trying to play catch up with the PEBA universe before the trade deadline. Do teams receive compensatory picks for lost free agents?

Someone correct me if I have details wrong, but here is my understanding.Bears wrote:Hey guys, normally I'd read through everything first, but I'm trying to play catch up with the PEBA universe before the trade deadline. Do teams receive compensatory picks for lost free agents?
If you extend a qualifying offer (I think it's somewhere in the $17M range) and the player declines that offer and later signs with another team, you get a pick in between the 1st and 2nd rounds. Last draft there were 13 of those picks.
Also worth noting is that compensations picks can be traded.

You also lose a first round pick if you sign a comp eligible FA - unless you're in the top-10, then you lose your next highest - typically your 2nd rounder...
