Bakersfield P Arturo 'Massacre' Jiménez went down with a career-ending injury last sim. Torn rotator cuff.

Former Aurora pitcher.

We drafted ‘Massacre’ out of HS way back in 2015 with the 11th pick in the draft, and he (along with Junior Cook) were like the first Winterball guys I’d seen who added a pitch (both change-ups) that actually became useful pitch’s... interestingly, over time his walk rate improved, but he got greedy... so we had to trade him... he’ll go down as one of PEBA’s Big Arms...

The expression on his face said it all when starting pitcher Arturo Jiménez was injured throwing a pitch today in a game at The Chocolate Factory at Yum! Field against Kalamazoo. You could tell that this was no minor injury. Jiménez was examined quickly by the team doctor and immediately rushed to the local hospital. After several tests, the diagnosis was a torn rotator cuff, and in this case, it means his career is over. The Bakersfield Bears issued the following statement: "It is with great sadness that we see Arturo ending his career due to injury. He was a great competitor and teammate and will be missed by the Bears organization." Jiménez is 30 years old.

So far this season, Jiménez has logged a 5-7 record with a 3.28 ERA. He has started 21 games, hurled 120.2 innings and registered 87 strikeouts and 33 walks.

3 way tie for 1st place in the Great Lakes Division, Crystal Lake, Duluth and Fargo. Canton isn't that far back (4 games) as well. Pythag favors Duluth at the moment, but they as well as my Fargo team have under-performed their expected Pythag record by 7 games thus far.

Yea, this is going to be tight down the stretch unless a team pulls ahead soon.

Rough week for Aurora, but I've more a question for the group:

Can someone tell me why MR Felix Pena has pitched all of 1.1 inning all season - including none since coming off an early DL stint, even though he's listed for normal usage...

No idea. I've seen weird things like that too. The AI makes odd choice sometimes.

Then again 4 of your SP are averaging about 7IP per start, so maybe there are'n that many innings to go around. Your other 7 relievers seem to have gotten normalish usage.

True, but that’s the Aurora norm, and nothing has changed roster-wise; we’re carrying the same number of pitchers... weird...

For 3 weeks, pride swelled the chests and hearts of the residents of the desert town of Yuma, Arizona, as their ball club, the Bulldozers, played like only Yuman Beings can play and in the process nearly matched their own PEBA record for consecutive losses (23). For 20 straight games the Dozers displayed their talents in the field, on the mound, and at bat (especially at bat), while losing every game from July 30th to August 20th. On the 21st, a disappointing Yuma Nine squeaked by Kalamazoo 3-2, bringing the streak to an end and reminding the denizens of Yuma that this team, their team, can always be relied on to disappoint.

And now for something completely different:

Havana's magic number is 11. :geek:

:geek: 11 is the atomic number of the element sodium.
:geek: Apollo 11 was the first manned spacecraft to land on the Moon.
:geek: 11 is the number of spacetime dimensions in M-theory.

And helping that magic number:

11 is the number of wins San Juan has had since the all-star break

11 was the number of losses by San Juan in August before being crushed by Havana in a four-game series.

11 is half the number of road games won by San Juan all season

I know the Codgers benefitted from the Yumans' largess this past sim....my condolences on the victory. :,-(
