League Structure

#1 Post by Morris Ragland »

Contraction has been brought up in response to the current vacancy issue. I'm taking that off the table for the 2027 season, though this will be the last season I'll be doing that.

If contraction looks like it makes sense for the league next offseason, my inclination is not to hold another contraction draft, but to let contracted teams retain their 65 most desirable players as they migrate to the WIL, and move the rest into free agency.

Let me know what you think.

Thank You!

I do not think that it's in our best interest to contract. If we have enough GM's willing to baby sit (hand raised), that's by far the better option.

I brought it up but agree it will be best for to consider for next season if there are still multiple vacancies. Good ideas.

If we were to contract, my preference would be to hold a contraction draft. I'm sure that's something we find a volunteer to run (I might step up for that).

I wouldn't want to lock away a lot of good talent in the WIL. We are starving for talent already.

Another option would be to make all of their players free agents. That would pretty amazingly fun free for all.

Haha yes and make all the players angry :) any idea who should be president of the players union? I'd like to write an article about all the players being mad that he sold them out to the commish and the ownership.

That's a great point.

No way the players union would allow scores of players to just get transferred from PEBA to the WIL.

This sounds good for the upcoming season and yeah I think contraction may need to happen if things do not change after the next season. I'd be fine with either a draft from those teams or not.

I wasn't around for the last contraction so I will defer to those who were there. But wouldn't drafting the players put a huge financial burden on the other teams remaining? Would you bump up tv revenue or something to make up for the increase in salaries?

Current Salary and contract was a consideration in terms of the last draft. If you can't afford him, can't draft him. What I noticed was top prospects became the premium contraction draftees.

Yup!

And 'middle-age' stars, it seemed, didn't get drafted - for instance Tony Figueroa, who had been a total stud with Tempe...

He was in the contraction draft. Nobody wanted to pick up that contract.

Phew.... In retrospect that's a bargain.

At least he's lined up to be a Free Agent.

He actually just signed a 1-year extension back in October so his contract runs through all of this coming season. It wouldn't surprise me if he kept signing 1-year deals.
