Radio broadcasts in the radio glory days popping up online

#1 Post by Reg »

I am much too young to have heard this live (born 1987). However, I have a preference, during the regular season anyway, to listen to baseball games over the radio while at work or driving around town on a sunday afternoon.

Lately I have been finding a lot of these gems on youtube, and I wanted to share !

Brooklyn Dodgers vs Chicago Cubs, at Ebbets Field (yes, with the timeless Vin Scully at the helm for the first three innings, then Jerry Doggett doing the remaining innings) .... June 4th, 1957

Note: Pitching for Brooklyn: Sandy Koufax!

"Koufax is 0-for-10, but he's shown progress. The last few times up he's hit the ball, and once or twice fairly well."

Another gem from the same season. July 28th 1957. Brooklyn vs Cincinnati.

Sounds appropriate to listen to it in bed, huddled around your smartphone as if it were a handheld radio :D

Excellent. Thanks for sharing theseadcasts from the early days of radio. Can't wait for a chance to listen to these gems.

Radio baseball definitely had a special spot in my memory. Sitting with grandpa on the back porch listening to games on the radio was a special treat (baseball was rarely chosen on the television of my childhood home). Having the game on while driving. It has been a very long time since I've listened to a game on radio.

A local radio station had a weekly program, late on Saturday nights I believe, that re-played general programming broadcasts from the early days of radio. Historic aspects of being able to travel back in time is awesome in itself.
