Mafia! The Stadium Lockdown: Day 2

#1 Post by Lions »

Mr. Harrison and the two mounties, Magnus and Ulrich, escorted everyone to the loge deck where
they were each given a luxury box in which to rest for the night. Many struggled to get to sleep,
trying to make sense of the day that had just turned their world upside down.

Spikes McGee was among them. He couldn't shake the feeling that there was something he
hadn't been able to think of that would resolve this matter quickly. As he always did when he
needed some time to think, he decided he would head down to the locker room for some exercise.
After all, getting the blood pumping would be just the thing to get his mind focused on the villains.

Image

However, he didn't see the Clutchers' mascot, Homer Simian, hiding behind the pillar in the
dark and holding a large crowbar.

As he always did, he began with some crunches in the middle of the floor. That was the best place
to be seen by any and all. Spikes was in the best shape of everyone on the team, and he wanted
people to see how easy it was for him to do hundreds of crunches a day. He then moved to some
push-ups, of which he outclassed his teammates by far.

Image

Quietly, the mascot moved towards him and raised his crowbar. Spikes was counting loudly as he
raised and lowered his body.

45!

46!

47!

48!

Image

"49… 50." Said the mascot quietly with each blow.

***

In the morning, the party was summoned from their luxury boxes back to the locker room
by Magnus and Ulrich. Neither Bob Scorat or Spikes McGee were among them. Mr. Harrison
and Josef addressed the crowd.

Image

"Unfortunately, another one of our ballplayers was found killed this morning." Mr. Harrison
was having difficulty getting the words out, and motioned to Josef to continue.

"I am sure you all have noticed zat Spikes McGee is not with us," he began. "He was
found murdered in zis very locker room before you all were brought here zis morning.
You have Magnus and Ulrich to zank for ze clean floor. I am also very sad to have
to tell you zat it appears neither Mr. Zcorat or Mr. McGee were mafia.

"Lastly, all ze bats are being confiscated from zis room. There will be no more silly
pinata games today, I am afraid.

"I do hope you make zome wiser decisions today."

Rules - Please read these carefully!
  1. Each player will be given a character to play who will be aligned with either the Town, the Mafia (scum), or niether. Town wins when all threats to the town have been eliminated and there is at least one town player alive. Mafia wins when the Mafia obtain a majority or nothing can prevent this from occurring. Any other party characters will have their own win conditions outlined in their roles.
  2. Each day you will vote to lynch a player. Voting should be done in the following format: Vote: Character (Name/Forum Handle). Similarly, unvoting is to be done in the format; Unvote: Character (Name/Forum Handle). No other format will be accepted. You may unvote and revote as many times as you like. The player with the most votes at the end of a game day will be lynched. If there is a tie then the first player to achieve this vote count will be lynched. Failing to post in the day thread will result in a vote penalty the following day equal to the remaining number of players divided by 4, rounded up. You may not vote for yourself.
  3. A game day will last a maximum of 72 hours. You may not vote in the first 24 hours. The day will end after 72 hours, unless the group are decided on a lynch and the moderator decides to end it early. After the day has concluded, a night stage will commence, which will last a maximum of 48 hours. Night actions must be sent to the host in the first 24 hours of the night stage. They will not be accepted after this deadline has passed.
  4. The alignment of lynched players, as well as those that died during the night will be revealed at the beginning of the next day.
  5. You may not quote or pretend to quote anything sent to you by the game hosts via PM. This includes all the details of your character and role, as well as any night action results. Role claims and reporting of night action results are acceptable, but in your own words only. Do not attempt to use the structure of your role PM to your advantage.
  6. Do not play the game outside the thread. Similarly, do not post out of character inside the thread. Game tactics and roles may only be discussed in the game thread or via PM with other players. Private discussion is done at your own risk and should be treated as part of the game. Metagame at your own risk.
  7. If you are dead, you may not post in thread or discuss the game with any of the players. Any information you had becomes void, and may not be passed on. Please respect those still alive by keeping what you know to yourself until the game is over.
  8. You may not edit your posts. Editing a post will result in a vote penalty the same day, equal to the number of remaining players divided by 4, rounded up.
  9. If you encounter a problem or have a question, please contact the host via PM. No other communication with the hosts will be accepted or acknowledged.
  10. Any interpretation of rules that require clarification is at the hosts discretion and the host's word is final. You are more than welcome to PM the host for any clarification needed that you feel may be too revealing to ask in this thread.
  11. Violation of the above rules will result in vote penalties at the host's discretion, with the possibility of death for repeated offenses.

Players
Image
Ulysses G. Harrison - NPC
Ulysses is the owner of the Clutchers, and has known that something fishy was going on, but has so far been unable to stop it, a situation reflected in his appearance if not his demeanor.

Image
Josef - NPC
Itís a bit unclear exactly where Josef is from, but he dresses like Sherlock Holmes and clearly knows what heís doing.

Image
Magnus - NPC
For some odd reason, he doesn't remind you at all of Inspector Fenwick. The beret doesn't help.

Image
Ulrich - NPC
A Royal Canadian Mountie with a black doo-rag and a Katana strapped to his back?

Image
Gavin Black - Played by Kevin L (Featherheads)
You are the Clutcher's cleanup hitter, and you're always trying to take the ladies deep, too, but you're more likely to swing and miss in both situations.

Image
Thomas Hutchins - Played by John (PEBA Commissioner)
You are the team's dependable ace, a veteran who's seen it all, and little phases you at this stage of your career. The offense may be bleak, but you're regularly among the league leaders in most pitching stats.

Image
Janet Ingram - Played by James (Longshoremen)
You are the Clutcher's public relations representative. You have recently denied any truth to rumors of romantic invovlement with Laird Wausden.

Image
Rick Leonardson - Played by Tyler (Allehenies)
You are the Clutcher's head statistician, a position you have the education for but were ultimately given because you are the owner's nephew.

Image
Olivia Parsons - Played by Bob (Bulldozers)
A single mother and ex-college softball player, you love bringing your son Todd to Clutchers games.

Image
Todd Parsons - Played by Dan (Bureaucrats)
You're the 12 year old son of Olivia, and have been a die hard Clutchers fan longer than you can remember.

Image
Vinny Patek - Played by Kevn V (Evas)
A die hard Beavers fan living in Clutcher's country, you never miss a game when the Beavers visit, and you take plenty of joy in how your team has dominated the matchup in recent years.

Image
Marcy Swanson - Played by Nigel (Underground)
You regularly sing the national anthem at Clutcher's games, but missed your opportunity with the cancellation of today's game.

Image
Suka Tingenek - Played by Paul (Trendsetters)
You hail from Kivalina, AK and have been an avid follower of Laird Wausden ever since his days as a minor leaguer.

Deceased
Image
Laird Wausden - NPC
Wausden was slated to start the first game of the Beaver series before he was found murdered in the showers.

Image Image
Bob Scorat - Played by Mike (Borealis) - Lynched on Day 1 - TOWN
You are the player agent for Laird Wausden.

Image Image
Spikes McGee - Played by Brian (Sandgnats) - Killed on Night 1 - TOWN
You are the speedy leadoff hitter that drives the Clutcher's offense. You're easily the best player in a troubled lineup and you know it.
***

Day 2 has now begun. The day will last 72 hours. You may not vote for the first 24 hours.

This thread is exclusively for active participants in the game. In-character posts only, please.

OLIVIA slumps to the floor when she hears the news. She pulls her son, Todd, to her and rocks him silently. She has no words for the sorrow she feels; her larynx is so tightly constricted by fear she couldn't utter them if she had them.

Vinny Patek: Surveys the room. Takes in all the reactions of the mob. Something odd about the boy... seems more relieved than distraught to Vinny.

Some things is off about that boy. Children to not react like that normally. What better facade for a criminal to hide behind than that of a child? I don't trust him. Let's string him up.

Vote: Todd Parsons (Dan)
Kevin V. - GM of the Shin Seiki Evas.

Thomas Hutchins: Now lemme get this straight, Patek. We've just learned of a new murder not five minutes ago, and you're ready to pin it on a 12-year-old boy? What, you've be Inspector Clouseau-ing about this room on the sly?

Look, the kid's annoying, I'll give you that. You wanna tell me his mama should be doing a better job of disciplining him, you'll get no argument from me. But we're talking about the murder of a top-notch ballplayer in his prime. How's a kid gonna pull that off?

I loved Spikes like he was my own brother. I'd tear off my pitching arm and club his killer to death with it if I could, but I'll be damned if I'm gonna start tossing kids onto the fire without a shred of proof. I'm much more likely to wonder why you're so eager to finger the boy, Patek. Who stands the most to gain from the death of two Clutchers? How about the division-leading Houghton Beavers, the team we're supposed to be playing right now, the team you're on record as being a die-hard fan of, Patek. Seems to me like you've got the most to gain from the Clutchers' pain. You wanna start casting votes already? I'm right there with you, pal.

Way to go, sheeple.

As far as I am concerned, everyone who voted for the late Mr. Scorat OR WHO ABSTAINED <gives long cold stare to Olivia Parsons> should be considered a member of the mafia until their actions prove otherwise. That list is:

Rick Leonardson
Marcy Swanson
Suka Tingenek
Thomas Hutchins
Gavin Black

Olivia Parsons (abstain)
Todd Parsons (abstain)

Now there's nine of us left in this room, which means that at least five of us have to be non-mafia. . . or else we're already doomed anyway. So we need five votes for someone who is clearly mafia. Any of the Scorat voters want to step up, admit stupidity, and plead not to be chosen?

Suka: Seems to me Janet, that for someone who voted for Spikes (who wasn't mafia) you don't exactly have a great track record for picking people either. In fact, your blanket accusations, make me feel more and more like you are mafia, and you killed Spikes last night to throw us off your trail. After all, only some one crazy would kill the exact person they voted for...unless they are crazy like a fox. The only thing thats keeping me form voting for you right now, is the fact that the Beaver boy over their wants to kill off a kid. And I will have no part in that!

Thomas Hutchins: (Glares at Vinny Patek) I don't trust you as far as I can throw you, Beaver-lover. But the news of Spikes's passing got me riled up, and I probably need to soak my head in a bucket of ice-water to cool down before I pass any final judgments. Somebody is targeting Clutchers, and me and Gavin are the only two left. I ain't gonna let no one do to Gavin what they did to Spikes and Laird. He's thicker than potato porridge, but I love Gavin like he was my own brother. The sooner we ferret out the rat, the better:

Janet: So now you're spreading lies? I neither voted for Spikes, nor killed him. I was convinced he was a townie after he listened to Mr. Scorat's desperate pleas and switched his vote. . . even if he did switch it to me. Poor Spikes never was the sharpest tool in the drawer after all <pauses, tears up> Of course, he was still smarter than all of you sheeple who rushed Bob Scorat to meet his maker.

I won't bother to defend myself personally, as any such argument is inherently hollow in this situation. I'll just point out the flaw in your reasoning.

As I explained before, we are looking for organized criminals, not a serial killer. That is what a person assassinating opposing players because of his love of hi steam would be. The continued attack on me because I am a fan of the Beavers is inherently flawed. It smacks of a straw man.

Our captors have concluded that everyone in this room is a possible mafia member. And who among that group stands out? The only "child", Todd Parsons. 12 is not too young to be tried as an adult. And as Janet pointed out, Todd's abstention is another piece of evidence.

Vote: Todd Parsons (Dan)
Kevin V. - GM of the Shin Seiki Evas.

Gavin Black: Good ol' Tommy boy is right. Us ballplayers are the next targets. It is either me or Hutch next. Just face it, someone in here got a thing against the Clutchers. Someone has to know something! If you know something, you better speak up. If you don't you are just as bad as the killers. We need to get to the bottom of this fast. I am running out of hair product! Argh, my worst nightmare is coming to reality... bed hair! Someone speak up! We need to start working like a team rather than a bunch of vigilantes. Dammit, Gavin Black can't do it all. I can't be hitting solo shots. Someone get on base so Gavin can bring them home!

All the chatter about wanting out of the stadium was silenced with the news of Spikes McGee's death.
When Olivia's sobs died out, everyone just stood and stared for a long time.

Image

Finally, Vinny Patek spoke up, "I don't trust that kid!" he stated firmly.
