OOTP Franchise Hockey Manager feedback

I believe when I purchased OOTP 17 or 16, I splurged for a bundle with OOTP Franchise Hockey Manager. I have not yet even installed the game. I am curious what others think if they've tried it yet. This would be the time of season to wade into that world.

Small world. I just picked up a copy of FHM3 and am in theprocess of trying to figure it out. Had a run through the online manual and it looks deep. Hoping to give it a run soon but tonight the Bruins play Florida so I won't have a ton of time to dig into it.

One thing that's not really clear to me yet is if how can create a fantasy a la PEBA with made up teams logos etc. I'm pretty sure it's there; just not sure how one goes about it. Was fiddling with the idea of starting up an online FHM league. But I really haven't got enough knowledge of the thing yet to realistically do that. Will be ticking to solo play for now.

Have you played it yet? What did you think?

Actually, you can't really do fictional leagues in FHM2. And I'm pretty sure you can't in the new FHM3, either. Apparently that feature didn't work well in the initial release, so the developers decided to ditch it. An unfortunate decision, to be sure. Hopefully we'll see the feature added back in the future.

I'm still working my way throgh it very slowly but so far the one word that comes to mind is: deep. Gonna need a bigger boat ...

This game is deep is terms of setting up your team tactics and strategy. Haven't played enough to get a feel of how all the various parts react to various inputs.

One recommendation is to start a sandbox game and fiddle around a bit before taking a long term plunge with your dream team.

Thanks Patrick. That is a very good reason for me to avoid the game. I remember struggling with perhaps similar issues of strategy and tactics in World Wide Soccer Manager. Baseball is greatly simplified with mostly isolated discrete events wherein only a few players are involved at a time during a play.

Ditto here on the soccer game - it went from fun to over-bearing in a couple of iterations. Even OOTP's strategy set-up can be a bit daunting. I hit a few of the sliders and players of import and let the AI manager do what he will - we can only do so much - such as why does River Pope, listed as lead-off in both line-ups move into the 2-hole when he plays in CF (instead of his normal LF) - and a crappy .225 hitter placed in the lead-off spot?? I Don't want to bunt much - and yet we seem to bunt a lot... How much effect do we truly have with those strategy sliders...??

Anyway, I do plan on purchasing the game if for no other reason than to support the developers...
