Speaking of logos, I was wasting time at work the other day reading Wikipedia entries about teams in the Bundesliga, Germany's top level of soccer, when I happened upon a team with a rather familiar insignia... :o

Imagine my surprise when, driving down US 30 in Indiana, I saw a business proudly displaying this logo...

I was futzing around with an old external hard drive in my home office last night. When I hooked it up and started looking through it, I discovered many files on it from the year 2007....which just happened to be the year a little organization called the Planetary Extreme Baseball Alliance came into being.

Stay tuned for a little trip down memory lane...

First, a couple pieces of Codger-specific historical images.

Here is the original drawing of the fellow who became the basis of the Codgers logo.

A few people have asked me over the years if I drew this myself, and the answer is oh, no no--this artwork is far beyond anything my limited drawing skills could ever produce. No, I found this image via a simple Google image search for "Codger" back in 2007. If I remember right, it was the logo for a column called "Notes from the Old Codger" or some such thing, in some little news publication that seems to have vanished from the internets since then. All I noticed was that his left hand was in perfect position to have a baseball stuck in it.

I flipped him around to face the other way, ineptly pasted the baseball from the Dodgers logo onto his hand, then plopped the Codgers script (also mainly stolen from the Dodgers logo) on top, et voíla! A perfect old-timey-looking baseball insignia.

Long ago in the LRS somebody was thinking of moving a club to Sapporo. Here are some concept logos for a club that nearly was:

I remember the birth of the Codgers well. That Sapporo art is new to me, though. Very cool! :)

I remember the conversation about the move to Sapporo and the artwork. Wasn't it Seoul who wanted to move, because they were the only non-Japanese team?
